Cincinnati Reds promote 3 prospects to Double-A, including outfielder Allan Cerda

After completing the first half of the minor league season, the Cincinnati Reds promoted three prospects to Double-A Chattanooga after Sunday’s games.

Outfielder Allan Cerda, right-hander Connor Phillips and infielder Nick Quintana have bumped up a level from High-A Dayton, The Enquirer learned. Cerda was added to the Reds’ 40-man roster last winter while Phillips and Quintana were trade additions.

Cerda, a 22-year-old who split time in center field and right field, had a .219 batting average and a .369 on-base percentage with 13 doubles, 13 homers, 31 RBI in 62 games at Dayton. His .857 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) ranked 10th in the Midwest League.

Phillips was the player to be named later in the Jesse Winker/Eugenio Suárez trade with the Seattle Mariners. The 21-year-old had a 4-3 record and a 2.95 ERA in 12 starts. He struck out 90 batters, the second-most in the Midwest League, and walked 32 across 64 innings. He will be one of the youngest pitchers in the Southern League when he joins Chattanooga.

Quintana was acquired in the Tucker Barnhart trade from Detroit. He hit .257 in 59 games at Dayton with 12 doubles, six homers and 32 RBI. He had a .372 on-base percentage, which ranked ninth in the Midwest League, with 33 walks compared to 52 strikeouts. The 24-year-old Quintana split time at third base and second base.

Phillips is ranked as the No. 14 prospect in the Reds' farm system by Baseball America while Cerda is No. 20. Quintana, a second-round pick by the Tigers in 2019, was not listed in Baseball America's top 30.

The Dayton Dragons finished the first half of the season with a 39-27 record, falling one game shy of winning their division in the split-season standings.
