CHSAA State Wrestling Championships results from Day 1. See who made it to Day 2

The CHSAA state wrestling championships from Denver started on Thursday afternoon and the tournament was held at Ball Arena with hundreds of student-athletes from all around Colorado, including 55 athletes from the Pueblo area.

Here are the big winners of day one of the CHSAA state wrestling tournament.

Pueblo East led the way with six of their nine wrestlers taking home a win on the first day including sophomore Justus Freeman, who picked up a win against fellow Pueblo representative Vincent Sanchez-Vasquez of Pueblo County.

The Hornets earned three wins on the day including the recently crowned Fan's Choice Wrestler of the Year Thomas Velasquez taking home a win on day one. Pueblo South earned two victories from Cruz Martinez and Braden Medina. Pueblo Centennial's Jason Soto also earned a victory for the Bulldogs. Pueblo West was the only Class 4A team to not earn a victory.

In Class 2A, Dolores Huerta earned two victories, one by Miguel Franco and the other by AJ Jaramillo. Both finished the season as the no. 1 ranked wrestler in Class 2A in their respective weight classes. Rye failed to earn a victory on day one.

In girls wrestling, out of the seven girls representing Pueblo Centrals program, three earned victories in Acelyn Duran, Lilliana Lopez, and Kenna Pino.

Day two matchups

Day two of the CHSAA state tournament will see 21 Pueblo wrestlers dueling it out in the quarterfinals of the tournament. This day will also include semi-final matchups taking place at the end of the day.
