Christian Watson's dad says Packers fans 'about as bad as it gets' in criticism of team, his son

Christian Watson's lack of production in 2023 and his involvement in many critical plays in end-of-game situations for the Green Bay Packers during heartbreaking losses this season have been scrutinized weekly.

He should be using his size more against undersized defenders, fans often say. Or he could help Jordan Love more in catching the 50-50 balls, it's often mentioned with disgruntled Packers supporters.

Fair or not, that's been the noise surrounding Watson in his second season.

Watson's father, Tazim Wajed, hears it and has a message for Packers fans he calls "as bad as it gets."

Wajed, born Tim Watson, is joined by Christian's mom in being very active on social media and appears will never back down from someone during and after Packers games, often when there is criticism of their son.

They see it all.

Christian Watson's dad says Packers fans 'don't deserve a damn thing but to support players'

In the aftermath of the Packers' loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, a defeat that dropped their record to 3-6, Wajed not only had choice words for plenty on X (formerly Twitter) but he had a couple lengthy posts blasting Packers fans and reporters for what he says were unrealistic expectations and referenced fans' past behaviors for two of the team's all-time greats.

"What amazes me about this Green Bay Packers fan base, and some of you reporters quite frankly, is the fact that this team, which is literally the youngest in the NFL, was not expected to even compete this season, yet have found a way to be in every game," Wajed wrote on Nov. 12.

Four of the Packers' six losses have been by one score. Green Bay has lost those four games by a combined 11 points and the offense had the ball late in each of those games with a chance to win. They all too often ended with a Love interception and Watson has been the target multiple times.

Wajed added: "You all are about as bad as it gets, and I played in Philly with their schizophrenic fans." He played five seasons in the NFL after being drafted by the Packers in 1993. He also played for the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles.

Wajed also wrote that Packers fans were "awful to Aaron Rodgers when he took over for Favre, and pretty much any time he wasn’t perfect on the field! You wanted Davante Adams to be cut by his 2nd season… AND you somehow think you 'deserve' better than what this team is?!? You all don’t deserve a damn thing but to support the players who’re out there playing their asses off, if you choose to be fans!"

Davante Adams started slow with the Packers as well

Like Watson, Adams was a second-round draft pick. Drops were a frequent early issue for Adams, whose first two seasons didn't give the indication that he'd become a potential Hall of Famer.

After catching 38 passes for 446 yards as a rookie with three touchdowns and then having 50 catches for 483 yards with just one touchdown in his second season, he broke out in year three and has become one of the game's best receivers. He posted 12 TDs his third year, 10 his fourth year and then had his first 1,000-yard season of his career in his fifth season. He has had three straight All-Pro seasons from 2020-22 and led the NFL in touchdown catches with 18 in 2020.

He left Green Bay in 2021 after being traded to the Las Vegas Raiders with the fourth-most receiving yards (8,121) in team history.

Christian Watson has been hampered by hamstring injuries during his career

As far as Watson through his first season and a half? He started slow as a rookie due to injuries, most notably a hamstring strain. He missed three of the team's first nine games before having his coming out party in the Packers' 10th game when he had four catches for 107 yards and three touchdowns in an overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys. That game was the start of a four-game stretch when he posted seven touchdowns for 313 yards, including two 100-yard games.

He was expected to lead a young wide receiver room consisting of all first- and second-year players. But a hamstring injury again slowed him out of the gate. He missed the team's first three games before returning for the Packers' game against the Detroit Lions in late September.

In six games in 2023, Watson has just 14 receptions for 236 yards with one touchdown and he has a 42.4% catch rate on the balls thrown his way. There have been a couple highlights that showcased his speed and leaping abilities, like his 77-yard reception against the Raiders and a spectacular 37-yard grab against the Los Angeles Rams.

Christian Watson's dad says fans should remember players are human beings with families

In a follow-up message on X, Watson's dad said he understands criticism "both warranted and unfair comes with the territory."

He also recognizes that fans have a right to be upset with their team or players who aren't playing well.

However, Wajed noted that "some levity and real life reasoning comes with your choices" and that fans should remember that "players on these teams are Human Beings with families."

Wajed also added "young players and teams need time to develop. There will be frustration during that process… Take it or leave it… But, as a father, I’m here to stay, through the good and bad, with or without the NFL, no matter what!"
