Chillicothe native Zach McAllister headed back to MLB with New York Yankees

Welcome back to the majors, Zach McAllister.

The New York Yankees are calling up the 35-year-old Chillicothe native for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

McAllister's last MLB appearance came five years ago with the Detroit Tigers.

The timing of his callup is fortuitous. McAllister will be facing the team of his neighbor and brother-in-law, Peoria resident Kyle Hudson, who joined the Red Sox this season as first base coach and outfield instructor.

McAllister signed a minor league deal with the Yankees in August. The right-hander appeared in 11 games for the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, going 1-1 with a 1.62 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 16.2 innings.

The Yankees drafted McAllister out of Illinois Valley Central with a third-round pick in the 2006 MLB amateur draft. In 2010, he was traded to Cleveland where he spent the next eight years highlighted by two appearances in the 2016 World Series against the Chicago Cubs. He also made three MLB appearances with the Detroit Tigers in 2018.

McAllister has also spent time in the minor league organizations for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals.
