Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes rookie card sells for record-breaking price

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has broken another record, this time off the field.

Sports trading card popularity has come back in a big way, with collectors lining up to buy the newest sets. The latest news is certainly an indication of their big comeback in popularity, especially among collectors.

A 1/1 National Treasures autographed rookie Patrick Mahomes card has broken the all-time record sales price. According to Boardroom, the card sold for $4.3 million, which ousted the previous record. The previous record-holder? Tom Brady, whose rookie card sold for $3.1 million back in March.

Mahomes himself was blown away to find out about this news. Check it out:

The crazy thing about this card is, it has been graded an 8.5 out of 10 by Beckett Grading Services. That means it’s not a perfect card with slight imperfections. Can you imagine what this card would have sold for if it were a perfect 10 out of 10? It’s value is mostly derived from it being the only card of its kind, but it’s crazy to think that this card could have possibly gone for more had it been in better condition.
