Chiefs bring back TE Blake Bell on one-year deal

A familiar face is returning to the Kansas City Chiefs after spending a year with the Dallas Cowboys.

According to OU insider Gabe Ikard, the Chiefs are bringing back TE Blake Bell aka ‘The Belldozer’ on a one-year deal. Bell, of course, became a Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs back in 2019 in Super Bowl LIV, playing the No. 2 tight end position behind Travis Kelce.

In 2020 with the Cowboys, Bell was primarily used as a blocker. He appeared in 16 games with two starts. He caught 11 receptions on 15 targets for 110 yards. Flashback to the 2019 season and it was a similar story for Bell. He was mostly used as a blocker in Kansas City and caught just eight receptions on 15 targets for 67 yards. He did snag an important touchdown during the come-from-behind win over the Houston Texans in the divisional round of the playoffs.

The Wichita, Kansas native also has family ties to the Chiefs, as his uncle, Mike Bell, was a defensive end who played 13 seasons and started 100 games for the franchise.

This is a smart move by Kansas City as they really had few answers in terms of depth at the tight end position after Bell left during the 2020 free agency period. He provides a stable blocking presence who already knows the offense and can do his job as a receiver when needed. On an affordable one-year contract it’s hard to beat what you’re going to get from Bell.
