Cherry leads Abilene Cooper boys past Seminole in basketball

SEMINOLE - Jalen Cherry poured in a game-high 28 points to spark Cooper past Seminole 64-56 in a nondistrict boys basketball game here Firday.

Jaelyn Rivera added 17 points, and Andrew Gonzalez had 10 as the Cougars (13-7) won their third consecutive game.

Channing Carter and John Cottrell led Seminole (5-15) with 16 points each.

Cherry, a 6-foot-4 senior, hit all six of his 3-point goals in the first half, including four in a second quarter that saw the Coogs outscore the Indians 16-8 to lead 32-26 at halftime. Cherry had 20 points in the half.

Rivera scored 13 points in the second half as the Coogs pulled away for the victory.

Cooper opens District 4-5A play Friday at Lubbock High.
