Charlevoix boys win again, Rayders' Streeter adds to recent 100th victory

TRAVERSE CITY — Hopefully there’s no longer questions about whether or not this Charlevoix boys basketball team is for real this season.

Because the Rayders keep putting them to rest game after game.

After beating rival Boyne City on the road a week ago, Charlevoix hit the road to Traverse City St. Francis Wednesday and returned home with a 69-55 win.

"We had a solid start, which is important because St. Francis can be a tough place to play,” Charlevoix coach Anthony Troshak said. “All credit to the players. They were focused, they had tremendous ball movement and the guys played as one.”

Hudson Vollmer and the Charlevoix boys continue to impress on the hardwood and moved to 9-1 overall this week.

Charlevoix led in a 52-44 game after three quarters, then buckled in for the fourth, while clamping down on Traverse City’s Max Ogden, who finished with 29 points.

“Max was tough for St. Francis tonight,” added Troshak. “He made some incredible shots. It seemed like every time we started to pull away he would hit a big shot. I thought Logan Wadkins and Vitale Collins did a good job on him in the fourth quarter.”

For Charlevoix, Hudson Vollmer led with 20 points and four assists, Joe Gaffney had 17 points and four steals, Troy Nickel scored 14 and Peyton Scott added eight.

It was the first victory for the Rayders since a two-point win in March of the late 2020-2021 season.

Charlevoix (9-1, 3-1 LMC) next hosts Kalkaska on Friday, Jan. 12, then welcomes in East Jordan on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Charlevoix at LMC Tri-Meet

GRAYLING — It’s been a solid last month for the Charlevoix wrestling team to say the least.

The Rayders earned a 2-0 day in Grayling Wednesday, topping the Vikings 43-34, before then beating Traverse City St. Francis, 46-27.

On top of the team results, Charlevoix has also had three wrestlers earn their 100th victory for their careers, which include Landon Swanson (215 pounds), Brady Jess (175) and Trevor Streeter (190).

All three also earned a 2-0 day on Wednesday against their LMC counterparts, while Jackson Fry (106) and Logan Wilks (157) also went 2-0.
