The Detroit Pistons have lost 20 games in a row and the schedule is only increasing in difficulty.

They host the Philadelphia 76ers at Little Caesars Arena on Wednesday in the first of four straight games against Eastern Conference playoff teams from a season ago.

The Pistons flopped in the second half — sound familiar? — vs. the Sixers in a 114-106 defeat Nov. 10 at home, the Pistons' seventh loss of this ignominious streak (wow does that seem like a while ago). The Sixers trailed by 16 in the first half but the Pistons could not defend reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid, who went 16-for-19 at the foul line en route to 33 points and 16 rebounds.

The Pistons face the 76ers' No. 2-ranked offense after giving up 131 points to the No. 1 offense, Indiana, on Monday.

Embiid is having by far his best passing season (6.4 assists per game) in new coach Nick Nurse's system, and for the third straight season leads the league in scoring at 33.4 points per game. Tyrese Maxey, whom the Pistons passed on three times in the 2020 NBA draft, is flourishing as the lead guard averaging 27 points and shooting 40.7% from 3-point range. He had 29 points and 11 assists in the first Pistons meeting, and is seventh in the league in assist to turnover ratio at 4.67. Former Piston forward Tobias Harris is their third scorer at 16.9 ppg.

The Pistons meanwhile are 27th in offensive rating and 24th on defense.

The Pistons on Friday visit the 76ers in Philly to complete the home-and-home, and then are at Milwaukee on Saturday night.

Detroit Pistons injury report vs. Philadelphia 76ers

The Pistons are without starting center Jalen Duren for another week at least with a left ankle sprain. Point guard Monte Morris (right quad strain) remains out into January. Marvin Bagley III (lower back) is out again after he missed Monday's loss to Indiana, leaving the Pistons with James Wiseman as the lone player with size against Embiid. Yikes.

The Sixers currently have no players listed with health-related concerns.
