Centennial's Aza Corbett is OSU Wexner Medical Center high school Athlete of the Week

In a vote that ended Jan. 12, Dispatch.com readers selected the The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center high school Athlete of the Week for competitions that took place from before Jan. 7.

This week's winner is Centennial basketball player Aza Corbett.

Corbett has 158 rebounds this season for an average of 17.6 per game. That is best in Ohio and ninth-best in the nation. For her career, she has 533 rebounds.

Corbett received 36% of the vote and was followed by New Albany basketball player Braylen Nash, who received 29.7%, Hilliard Davidson wrestler Luke Sparkman (12.2%), Worthington Kilbourne wrestler Will Beyer Geiger (5.4%), Centerburg basketball player Tiara Sheppard (5.3%), Olentangy basketball player Ulysses Ponder (5%), Newark Catholic basketball player Fini Kaiser (2.7%) and Johnstown basketball player Abigail Adkins (1.7%).

Nash scored a combined 59 points in wins over Westland and Dover. He also had 10 rebounds and was a 13 for 13 on free throws.

Sparkman won the Marion Harding Classic and the Marion Franklin Tournament and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler in the latter.

Beyer Geiger took first place at 106 pounds at the Kevin Cleveland Memorial Tournament at Dublin Scioto.

In nine games, Sheppard averages 12.8 points, 5.22 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.9 blocks and 2.7 steals per game.

Ponder had 34 points, 12 rebounds and three assists in a 72-45 win over Hilliard Darby.

Kaiser had 22 points and seven rebounds in a 54-53 win over Ready.

The Athlete of the Week voting recognizes athletes across all sports.

Nominations are due Monday mornings for competitions that took place the previous week.

Anyone can nominate an athlete through Twitter tagging @BrianWhite13 or by email to bwhite1@dispatch.com.

Once athletes win during the regular season, they're not eligible to be back on the ballot until the postseason. Athletes who have not been a recipient of one of the weekly awards can be nominated more than once.
