Celtics’ Jayson Tatum talks on pushing through doubts to get to where he is today

It was not always a given that a young Jayson Tatum would make the NBA, but his mother Brandy Cole recalled in a recent interview how seeing her son getting up every morning to work out in an empty gym convinced her that her son’s aspirations were not simply pipe dreams.

But even well after establishing oneself as a top talent in the world’s greatest basketball league, doubt can creep in, as it did for Tatum in the early part of the 2021-22 Boston Celtics season when things went poorly for the St. Louis native and his teammates in that campaign’s early going.

Speaking to the eponymous host of the “In Depth with Graham Bensinger” show, Tatum and his mother opened up about some of the more important formative moments of the Duke alum’s basketball career — both then and now.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say.
