Celtics’ 2023 NBA trade deadline gets a solid A from Bleacher Report

It might not have been the sort of sexy mega-deal fans of the Boston Celtics would have called fireworks, but it was just what the doctor ordered in terms of what the club needed. The Celtics’ decision to swap Justin Jackson and two second-round picks for Oklahoma City Thunder center Mike Muscala earned high marks from Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale in a recent article.

Per Favale, “Muscala is a risk-free acquisition who offers the exact type of frontcourt safety net the Celtics will maximize.” While Favale believes his “defensive mobility won’t turn heads” Boston is a team well-positioned to deal with the 31-year-old’s issues in a switching scheme.

“He will be eminently playable so long as his 39.4% clip from deep — 43.5% since Jan. 1 — holds firm,” added the B/R expert. “The Celtics might even be able to steal some dual-big minutes with him.”
