Case boys basketball magical season comes to a close in the Sweet 16

DORCESTER — It has been a magical season for the Case boys basketball team this winter.

Throughout the playoffs and even in the regular season, the feisty Cardinals played the role of underdogs and spoilers.

On Monday, Case's season came to an end.

The 22nd-seeded Cardinals were eliminated from the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association state tournament after falling to a talented sixth-seeded Burke team, 92-56, in the Division 4 Sweet 16 contest at Jeremiah E. Burke High School.

The Bulldogs (18-4) raced out to a 26-12 lead after one quarter and never looked back. The Cardinals trailed at halftime 56-28.

Case (13-10) made it to the postseason for the first time in four years. The Cardinals took care of business against Northeast Metro Regional and then upset Wahconah Regional in the Round of 32.

Six seniors — Chris Gaboriault, Aiden Parent, Jack Orton, Cam Pavia, Cayton and Gonsalves — played their final game in a Case uniform.

All and all, it was a memorable season for the Cardinals.
