Mets returning Eric Chavez to position as hitting coach
New Mets manager Carlos Mendoza will be bringing back another familiar face as part of his coaching staff.
Per SNY’s Andy Martino, Eric Chavez will return with the Mets in his original position of hitting coach, with Jeremy Barnes serving as co-hitting coach.
Chavez, who joined the Mets' coaching staff in 2022 under Buck Showalter, had moved from hitting coach to bench coach last season.
Chavez, Barnes and pitching coach Jeremy Hefner have all been retained under Mendoza, who is still looking to fill the bench coach role.
Former Mets manager Willie Randolph, an influential figure and close friend to Mendoza, has been speculated as a possibility for that role.
