Cardinals-Seahawks rewind: Arizona beats Seattle, reaches 6-0 in road games

The Arizona Cardinals (9-2) beat the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field, 23-13, on Sunday.

Seattle (3-7) has lost four of its last five games, and Arizona has split its last four.

In addition, the Cardinals have improved to 6-0 in road games this season for the fifth time in franchise history. The last time they won as many road games in a season was 2015 when they won seven, clinched the NFC West title and played in the NFC Championship.

The Cardinals have regained the NFL's best record, which they held from Weeks 4 through 7 when they were undefeated until they lost to the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 28.

At 2:16 on third-and-10 in the third quarter, Cardinals outside linebacker Jones got his second sack since Seattle's opening drive. It was for 10 yards lost and his two sacks total 16.

Jones has a team-high five tackles so far this game.

Now, he has 12.5 total sacks in his six games played at the Seahawks home field, and is in the top 10 all time for sacks there. He's the only one in that top 10 list that isn't a Seahawks.

Cardinals still up 16-6, now in the fourth quarter.

Seahawks CB Jones INT overturned

Colt McCoy threw his first interception of the game on a pass which targeted A.J. Green on the right.

On third-and-3 from the Cardinals 41 at 8:57 in the third quarter, Seahawks cornerback Sidney Jones IV seemingly intercepted the pass at the Cardinals 43. Jones ran the ball back for 32 yards before he stepped out of bounds in the red zone.

But the referees reviewed the INT and determined that the ball hit the ground and Jones didn't have full control as he caught it, which ruled the play as an incomplete pass.

Prater's FG extends Cardinals' lead in 3rd quarter

Prater got this one right.

After missing his last extra point and a 39-yard field goal attempts late in the second quarter, Cardinals kicker Matt Prater successfully booted in a 53-yard FG on fourth-and-6 at 13:02 early in the third period.

That extended Arizona's lead to 16-6.

Prater misses FG as clock expires in 2nd quarter

The Cardinals entered halftime on two consecutive unfavorable plays. One was forced by Seattle's defense, the other was forced by ... the wind?

On second-and-6 at the Seattle 21 with 15 seconds left, Colt McCoy rolled left out of the pocket and ran for three yards before he went out of bound to stop the clock. But Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner punched the ball out of McCoy's right hand just before he went out of bounds. That play was ruled a fumble by the officials after the review, which meant the clock was started again once the ball was positioned.

Then Matt Prater missed a 39-yard field goal attempt, which went wide left as the clock expired.

Cardinals get the ball first, still up, 13-6.

Ertz's 2nd TD extends Arizona lead before halftime

Zach Ertz told reporters on Thursday he hasn't had much success against the Seahawks throughout his nine-year NFL career. He also spoke about how to take their rambunctious crowd out of the game by playing fast.

But Ertz is playing one of his best games of the season in the first half (4 catches, 38 yards as he scored his second one-yard TD reception against Seattle.

The Cardinals' second scoring drive was largely because of Ertz's second catch of the game. Colt McCoy pump faked on a screen pass to free up Ertz who ran a seam route and caught a 25-yard pass and ran it down to the 1 on second-and-3 from the Seahawks 36 at the 2:30.

Then Ertz scored two plays later on a short pass over the middle at the 1:56 mark.

Matt Prater miss the extra point, and Cardinals went up, 13-3.

On the following Seahawks possession, Jason Myers kicked in his second FG for 27 yards at 1:05 to cut Arizona's lead, 13-6.

The Seahawks' first score was a 27-yard field goal on fourth down at 8:28 in the second quarter.

The FG shaved Arizona's lead to 7-3 and ended a seven-play 36-yard drive.

Seahawks got the field position to start in Cardinals territory after Arizona had to punt on fourth-and-11 from its own 4.

During Seattle's ensuing possession, Russell Wilson connected with wide receiver Tyler Lockett on a deep pass left for 25 yards to Arizona's 9. Two plays later from the 9, DK Metcalf nearly caught a TD pass as he bobbled and caught it with his left arm only in the left side of the end zone. But he was ruled out of bounds without his second foot in on the catch as he was guarded by cornerback Marco Wilson.

Then Seattle settled for the FG.

Ertz scores Cardinals' first TD, Arizona leads to end 1st quarter

Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz caught a one-yard TD pass, the game's first scoring play, on second-and-goal at the 2:51 mark in the first quarter.

That closed Arizona's 16-play, 82-yard opening drive.

The TD was Ertz's second as a Cardinals since he was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 15. His first TD for the team was on Oct. 24 in their 31-5 home win over the Houston Texans.

The extra point by kicker Matt Prater was good. Cardinals lead the Seahawks, 7-0, to end the opening period.

2 straight sacks in Seattle's opening drive

The Cardinals rushing defense looked shaky to start in the Seahawks first play, but Chandler Jones and Isaiah Simmons quickly redeemed Arizona.

After Seahawks RB Rashard Henny broke through the A-gap for 18 yards to the Seattle 43, Jones and Simmons came from the edge to sack Russell Wilson on the following two plays on second-and-4 and third-and-10.

Both sacks were for losses of six, forcing Seattle to punt.
