CAPE SPORTS ROUNDUP: Ella Cheney scores 200th career varsity point for JPII girls soccer

Ella Cheney of the St. John Paul II girls soccer team scored three goals with one assist to record her 200th career varsity point in a 7-0 win over Dennis-Yarmouth on Wednesday. Addison Cheney had two goals, while Raegan Dillon added two goals and one assist. Marlo Jumper recorded two assists, and Michaela Enright recorded an assist. Anna Corsi, Cassidy Conway, Florence Carlson, and Madeleine Boyle all made contributions for JPII (11-2-1).

Girls Soccer

Cohasset 7, Mashpee 1: The Falcons (3-10) field player who stepped in as goalkeeper, Charlie Jenkins, finished with 26 saves in the loss. Hailey Garcia scored the lone goal.

West Bridgewater 6, Bourne 0: The Canalmen (8-7-1) were shutout on the road.

Boys Soccer

Cohasset 4, Mashpee 0: The Falcons (4-9-1) were without five starters in the loss. Sophomores Michael Valois, Hayden Ruthven, and Jack Balfour played well for the Falcons, while junior varsity players who were called up, James LaMontagne and Tristan Mastrogiacomo, also contributed.

Sandwich 1, Randolph 1: The Blue Knights (8-3-3) ended in a draw. Sam Hart scored the lone goal with an assist from Owen Woodard.

West Bridgewater 2, Bourne 0: Mike Dankert played well in midfeild, while Quinn Moriarty had good playmaking for the Canalmen (1-10-2).

Girls Volleyball

Barnstable 3, Nauset 0: The Red Hawks (14-2) clinched the Cape and Islands League championship with a sweep win (25-8, 25-8, 25-14) over the Warriors (4-11).

Charlotte Sullivan had nine aces and five kills, while Molly Fredo (five kills), Molly Gleason (four kills), Bella Magalhaes (4 kills), and Ayla Camelo (four kills, three digs) contributed on offense. Teagan Geraghty and Logan Hurwitz each had four digs, while Sadie Wellbeloved had 15 assists and Nicky Murphy chipped in nine assists.

Dennis-Yarmouth 3, Falmouth 0: The Dolphins (9-7) picked up the win in straight sets (25-13, 25-16, 25-22). Mariah Eaton had eight kills and four blocks, while Juliyana Hristova finished with five kills and four blocks. Vivian Castano added 19 assists and two aces, and Sophia Cantwell chipped in 11 digs for D-Y.

Delia Roulston had 15 digs and three aces, while Christina Femino had eight assists, one kill and three aces for Falmouth (7-9).

Norwell 3, Sandwich 1: The Blue Knights (7-7) fall as Norwell won in four sets (25-16, 25-12, 24-26, 25-20). Mia Mulcahy had 21 assists and four kills, while Alanna Schreibeis contributed one ace, 12 kills and two blocks. Ella McCabe finished with seven kills and one block, while Grace Loewen contributed two kills and four digs.

Cape Tech 3, Upper Cape 0: The Crusaders (12-4) swept the Rams (0-16).

Bourne 3, West Bridgewater 0: The Canalmen (13-4) won in straight sets (25-21, 25-14, 26-24). Sofia Halunen led the offense with eight kills, while Nola Timo added seven kills. The defense was led by Lily Russell with 30 digs, while Mackinely Scully chipped in eight digs and four aces. Tallulah Beane, Avery Morrill, Hannah Pertillo and Reese Williams helped secure the win.

Monomoy 3, Rising Tide 0: The Sharks (2-11) picked up their second win of the season on Senior Night.

Sturgis West 3, Sturgis East 1: The Navigators (7-4) beat the Storm (4-7) in four sets (25-19, 25-22, 18-25, 25-19). Senior setter Samantha VanBeber had 15 points with four aces, three digs, and 20 assists, while junior middle Brodie Gerlach had eight points, 13 kills, five blocks, and seven digs. Senior Priscilla Lanca (two aces, one kill), senior Taylor Willman (three kills and two blocks), and senior outside hitter Chase Liimatainen (five points, two aces, three kills, six digs) all contributed for Sturgis West.

Field Hockey

Barnstable 5, New Bedford 0: Senior captain Penny Baroni had a hat trick, while senior Ally McEneaney had three assists for the Red Hawks (10-3-2). Senior captain Alexa Garthee had one goal and one assist, while senior Sophie Anderson chipped in one goal. Senior Grace Holden had the shutout in goal, and junior Paloma Savinon played well as a defender.

Monomoy 1, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: The Sharks (10-2-3) and Dolphins (6-7-3) ended in a tie. Ashley Holloman scored a goal assisted by Lilly Anderson in the third quarter, while goalkeeper Kayla Kelly had three saves for D-Y.

Nantucket 3, Sturgis East 0: The Whalers (6-4-3) shutout the Storm (2-6-3) at home.

Boys Golf

St. John Paul II 250, Nauset 275: Tri-captain Matt Curley led the Lions (19-1) with a 1-over-par 36, while tri-captain Timmy Adams finished with a 3-over par 38. Chris Heywood also played well as he posted a 41 for the Lions. The Warriors (13-3) were led by captain Jack Martin, who shot a 40, while Max St. Aubin contributed with a 41.

Sandwich 148, Abington 133: Luke Greeley shot a 1-under-par 34 at Strawberry Valley Golf Course for the Blue Knights (13-5) win and the South Shore League championship. Blaise Chatigney and captain Dylan McCabe each shot an even par 35. Bradley Moesman and Nathan DeBlank shot 39s, Kaden Schultz and Zaren Graff shot 42s, and eighth grader Liam Craddock had a 43.

Barnstable 247, Nantucket 251: The Red Hawks (13-3) barely edged out the Whalers (11-4) on a rainy day at Hyannisport.
