CAPE COD HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: JPII girls soccer win 8th straight

The St. John Paul II (9-2-1) girls soccer team won their eighth straight game with a 5-1 victory over Upper Cape (7-5) on Friday. Junior Lauren Rogers scored twice, including the winner, and added an assist to lead the Lions (9-2-1) offense to their eighth straight win. Addison Cheney also scored twice with one assist, Raegan Dillon dished out four assists, and Ella Cheney rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 76th minute. Defender Natalia Traykovski and goalkeeper Ellie Collette each made altering saves that helped seal the victory.

Norfolk Aggie 6, Cape Tech 0: The Crusaders (0-10) were shut out on their home field.

Old Rochester 3, Bourne 1: The Canalmen (8-5-1) snapped a three-game winning streak.

Football

Dennis-Yarmouth 27, Falmouth 6: Quarterback Jayden Barber went 7-for-14 for 106 yards and two touchdowns, and added five carries for 61 yards on the ground for the Dolphins (5-1) win over the Clippers (1-5).

Walter Mayo had three receptions for 69 yards and was on the receiving end of both of Barber's touchdown passes. James Barnicle rushed nine times for 70 yards and a score, while Oliver Doto had two carries for 115 yards and a touchdown.

Martha’s Vineyard 28, Monomoy 20: Guilherme Oliveira had two rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter, and added an interception on defense for the Vineyarders (3-3) win. Kaio DeCosta had a rushing touchdown, while William Nicholson threw a touchdown pass to Wyatt Nicholson.

Dillon Chapman led the Sharks (2-4) offense with two rushing touchdowns, while Chase Yarletts also finished with a rushing touchdown.

Bourne 28, Seekonk 16: The Canalmen (4-2) have won three of their last four games. Ty Kelley led the way with one touchdown pass (4-6 for 85 yards), one touchdown run (8 carries for 120 yds), and two interceptions. Ethan Fox ran in for two scores, while Cooper Gobeil caught a touchdown.

Sandwich 21, East Bridgewater 7: The Blue Knights (3-3) broke a two game slide with the victory. Adam Ferreira threw for 45 yards and ran for 40 yards and two touchdowns, while adding three tackles and one interception on defense. Gabe Ouellette ran for 52 yards and one touchdown, while Lincoln Shinn had a 38-yard reception. On defense, Tanner Dalpe (three tackles and one sack), Luke Steele (four tackles), Shinn (six tackles), and Jack O'Brien (eight tackles, two for a loss) all contributed.

Mansfield 28, Barnstable 7: The Red Hawks (5-1) lost their first game of the season.

Old Colony 46, Cape Tech 14: The Crusaders (2-3) lost their second straight game for the first time this season.

Mashpee 35, Hull 0: The Falcons (5-1) won their fifth straight game with a win over the Division 8 state champions Hull.

Boys Soccer

Cape Tech 6, Norfolk Aggie 0: Jace Clady scored four goals to lead the Crusaders (5-6-2) in the win. Matthew Silva and Daniel Colares each scored one goal.

St. John Paul II 2, Upper Cape 1: Nico Sullivan initiated the Lions (6-4-3) scoring, while Sebastian Ramos secured the second goal with a well-placed assist from Jose Aguilar. Cody Boghdan made his debut as goalkeeper this season and effectively limited the Rams to just one goal.

The Rams (10-2-1) goal was scored by sophomore Luke Correia and assisted by senior captain Gideon Drury. Sean Murphy, Liam Barton, Elijah Livramento, Tyler Weston, Jacoby Staruski, Lucas Sherman and Drury played well on defense for a second half shutout.

Plymouth North 7, Falmouth 3: The Clippers (2-8-3) lost for the first time over their last three games.

Field Hockey

Mashpee 0, Wareham 0: Ayesha Shafi finished with five saves in goal, while George Tompkins had two saves for the Falcons (2-9-1) first tie of the season.

Barnstable 1, Falmouth 1: The Red Hawks (9-2-2) and Clippers (6-3-3) ended in a tie. Ally McEneaney scored in the fourth quarter, assisted by senior captain Penny Baroni for the Red Hawks, while Caitlin Ward and Ruby Coleman played well on defense. Avery Johnsen scored the lone goal for the Clippers (6-3-3).

Nantucket 1, St. John Paul II 1: The Lions (10-1-2) and Whalers (4-4-3) ended in a tie. Sophie Stanley scored the lone goal with an assist from Maeve Shortt for the Lions. Mia Curley had good ball movement, and Lili Crofford and Erin Hatton played well on defense.

Monomoy 4, Nauset 1: The Sharks (9-2-2) picked up the win over the Warriors (4-7-2).

Girls Volleyball

Dartmouth 3, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: The Dolphins (7-7) fell short at home as Dartmouth won in straight sets (31-19, 25-16, 25-15). Mariah Eaton had seven kills and four blocks, while Ellen Swanson led the defense with 22 digs. Ava Kvietok finished with five kills and two blocks, and Vivian Castano chipped in 14 assists and two aces.

Old Colony 3, Upper Cape 0: Miranda Solomon, Ella Kerrigan, Danielle Lauar and Laney Cooper played well for the Rams (0-14) in the loss.

Sandwich 3, Mashpee 0: The Blue Knights (6-6) won in straight sets (25-15, 25-16, 25-19) over the Falcons (6-7). Mia Mulcahy led the way with 21 assists and two kills. Ella McCabe added 12 kills and two aces. Alanna Schreibeis had six kills, Katie Landry chipped in two kills, and Grace Loewen contributed two more kills.

Old Rochester 3, Bourne 1: The Canalmen (12-3) lost their third match of the season as Old Rochester won 25-21, 24-26, 25-19, 27-25. Sofia Halunen led the way with 15 kills, 10 assists, five blocks and had a 100% serving percentage with five aces. Nola Timo added nine kills and 20 digs. On defense, Mayla Muldoon finished with 20 digs, while Lily Russell contributed 28 digs.

Nauset 3, St. John Paul II 1: The Warriors (4-9) picked up the upset win at home over the Lions (10-3) in four sets (25-22, 25-18, 25-287, 25-21).

Norfolk Aggie 3, Cape Tech 0: The Crusaders (10-4) lost in straight sets at home.

Cardinal Spellman 3, Falmouth 0: The Clippers (6-7) lost in straight sets on their home court.

Boys Cross Country

The Falmouth High boys cross country team competed in the Twilight Invitational at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds. Silas Gartner claimed ninth overall in the varsity boys 5k race with a time of 16:01. Adrean Blackwood achieved a personal record in the same race with a time of 18:25.
