Cape Cod Baseball League roundup: Harwich scores seven runs in first four innings

The Harwich Mariners (15-18-1) beat the team with the best record in the Cape Cod Baseball League in the Cotuit Kettleers (22-10-1) for the third time this season in the four matchups they have had. The Mariners won 10-2 (won the other two games by a combined six runs) at Whitehouse Field on Thursday.

Bryan Arendt (North Carolina Wilmington) and Kaelen Culpepper each had two RBIs and two scored runs for Harwich. Kevin Karstetter was perfect at the plate (3-for-3) with an RBI and a scored run. Zane Probst (Alabama Tuscaloosa) picked up the win, pitching five innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, a walk, and striking out four. Grant Norris of Penn State led the way for the Kettleers as he finished 1-for-2 with an RBI, one scored run, and two walks.

Wareham Gatemen 5, Falmouth Commodores 2

With the game tied 2-2 after seven innings, the Gatemen (12-19-2) scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth led by Arizona's Garen Caulfield's two-run single. Tommy Splaine (Arizona), Nick McLain (Arizona State), and JC Colon (Missouri Columbia) each had an RBI for Wareham. Jackson Reid (Western California) picked up the win with two scoreless innings. He allowed three hits, no walks, and struck out three. Florida's Luke Heyman led the Commodores (16-16-2) at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a scored run.

Bourne Braves 10, Brewster Whitecaps 2

Derek Bender (Coastal California) finished 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and two scored runs for the Braves (17-15-1). Bryce Elbin (Alabama Tuscaloosa) went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, three scored runs, and Kendall Diggs and Jonathan Vastine (Vanderbilt) each had two RBIs. Dalton Pence (North Carolina Chapel Hill) pitched five innings and allowed five hits, two earned runs, two walks, and struck out eight for the win. Patrick Frobes (Louisville) went 2-for-3 with two scored runs and an RBI, while Josh Pearson (Louisiana State) went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Brewster (13-19-2).

Hyannis Harbor Hawks 15, Orleans Firebirds 5

Will Taylor (Clemson), Zach Yorke (Grand Canyon), and Brandon Eike each went yard for the Harbor Hawks (20-12-2) in the win. Taylor finished 4-for-6 (two scored runs, one RBI), Yorke went 2-for-4 (four RBIs, two scored runs), and Elke was 2-for-5 (three RBIs, one scored run). Zach Ehrhard (Oklahoma St) was 3-for-5 (two RBIs, two scored runs), and Cameron Smith (Florida State) finished 2-for-3 (three scored runs, two RBIs). Kross Sivley (Southern Mississippi) allowed one hit, no runs or walks, and struck out three over three innings for the win. Owen Carapellotti (Georgetown) hit a home run and finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Orleans (16-15).

Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox 7, Chatham Anglers 4

William Gleed (California Irvine) hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning, while Ryan Jackson (Southern California) went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Y-D (18-14-1). Finnegan Wall (California Irvine) picked up the win, allowing three hits, three runs, three walks and striking out four. Kyson Donahue hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth for Chatham (9-20-2).
