Cano day-to-day with bruised hand
New York Yankees slugger Robinson Cano wasn't seriously hurt when he was hit on the left hand by a pitch Tuesday.
The second baseman was struck by a first-inning pitch from Toronto Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ. Cano stayed in the game and scored a run, but he exited before the bottom of the first. He was diagnosed with a bruised hand, and X-rays were negative.
The Yankees list Cano's status as day-to-day.
Cano came home on an Alfonso Soriano homer that capped the Yankees' four-run rally. Eduardo Nunez replaced Cano at second base, but Nunez left the game in the ninth inning with an apparent knee injury. Mark Reynolds moved from first base to second, and Lyle Overbay took over at first.
New York beat Toronto 7-1.
Cano leads the Yankees in each of the Triple Crown categories, as he's batting .305 with 24 homers and 85 RBIs. He's hit safely in 18 of the 21 games in which he's had an official at-bat, batting .390 (32-for-82) in that span.
Over the past seven years, Cano has never missed more than two games in a season. He was selected to the American League All-Star team for the fifth time this year.
Cano is a two-time Gold Glove winner and a four-time Silver Slugger winner.
