'His butt cheek hit in bounds': Referee gets cheek-y during Browns vs. Rams game

It’s a good thing that Browns wide receiver Elijah Moore didn’t turn the other cheek after making a reception against the Los Angeles Rams with 4:22 left in the first half.

Moore’s left butt cheek was the difference in an instant replay review that worked in the team’s favor.

On a first-and-10 on their own 20-yard line, quarterback Joe Flacco dropped back and hit Moore on the sideline for a 42-yard completion that that Rams coach Sean McVay challenged.

There wasn’t enough evidence to overturn the decision, but it may represent the rare time that an NFL referee uses a certain term when breaking down a decision.

Fox Sports officials analyst Dean Blandino didn’t want to talk about cheeks or the like. Referee John Hussey had other ideas when confirming the catch.

“After review, prior to the receiver’s leg landing out of bounds, his butt cheek hit in bounds,” Hussey said. “As a result, it’s a catch and a first down.”

The Browns finished the drive with a field goal to tie the game at 10-10.
