Butler basketball guard Posh Alexander enters transfer portal

The Butler Bulldogs will need a new point guard next season.

After declaring for the NBA Draft while maintaining his eligibility, Posh Alexander has entered the transfer portal, per source. Alexander is the fourth Butler player to enter the transfer portal this offseason. Guard D.J. Davis announced he's transferring to Washington. Forward Connor Turnbull announced his decision to transfer to Evansville. Finley Bizjack and Alexander have not yet announced their transfer destinations.

Losing Alexander will be a big blow to the Bulldogs' perimeter defense. Alexander was a Big East Freshman and Defensive Player of the Year while at St. John's. In his lone season at Butler, Alexander averaged 11.3 points, 4.9 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game. Not known as an outside shooter, Alexander improved his 3-point accuracy from 23.2% in his final year at St. John's to 33.3%.

Who's staying, going: Butler basketball transfer portal roster moves

Of the players currently on the roster, sophomore Landon Moore would be in line to take point guard duties. But the Bulldogs will certainly add another guard, either via transfer portal or from the 2024 recruiting class.

Butler now has seven players officially on its roster: transfers Patrick McCaffrey and Jamie Kaiser Jr., and returnees Pierre Brooks II, Andre Screen, Boden Kapke, Augusto Cassia and Moore. All-State Brebeuf Jesuit guard Evan Haywood is still the only incoming freshman signed for Butler's 2024 class. Butler has five scholarship spots to fill.
