Former Tennessee-coach-turned Alabama analyst Butch Jones had a good time at the end of Alabama’s blowout win over Tennessee.

Jones, who was fired by Tennessee with two games to go in the 2017 season, got doused by a Gatorade bucket after Alabama finished off a 58-21 win over the Volunteers. It was Jones’ first time in Knoxville for a game since he was fired.

Tennessee fans are undoubtedly none too pleased with the affection Jones received after the game. Jones, who joined Alabama earlier this year in a non-coaching capacity, is not a loved figure in the state. He was 4-6 in a final season that was chaotic. Before his fateful 2017, Jones posted back-to-back nine-win seasons at Tennessee. But the Volunteers never won an SEC East division title under his watch.

The winner of the rivalry game between the Vols and Tide customarily smokes a victory cigar. Since Jones never beat Alabama at Tennessee, he never got to enjoy the cigar tradition. He enjoyed it Saturday.

You can’t blame Jones if he has a lot of fun with the win. He didn’t leave Tennessee in very glorious circumstances, even if he’s part of the reason the circumstances aren’t so glorious. But getting a win over a school that paid him approximately $8 million not to coach for them any longer has to be enjoyed.
