Busy week ahead on area diamonds
Apr. 1—SOUTHWEST NORTH DAKOTA — It's going to be a busy week — ostensibly — for diamond athletics here in the region, as the Dickinson High School Midget softball team gets started against Dawson County (according to the schedule) today, April 1 at Sanford Sports Complex at 3:30 p.m., while the baseball team from DHS will hopefully face Bismarck Legacy on the turf field at Sanford Sports Complex in Bismarck on the turf baseball field the next day at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 2. Meanwhile, Hettinger-Scranton's baseball team will get started next week.
The seasons don't last long for North Dakota teams, so the other teams in the area will be making hay while the sun shines, but South Heart's softball Cougars postponed an appearance scheduled at Hazen for Tuesday, April 2 at 3:30 p.m. and the baseball team hitting the field at Kidder County on Saturday, April 6. Another softball game was shoehorned and penciled-in at home versus Nedrose on Friday, April 5, but pay close attention to the various schools' websites as schedules might change.
Later in the week for the Midgets, the baseball team will cross their fingers as Watford City comes to town on Thursday, April 4 in DHS's home-opener at Dakota Community Bank & Trust Ballpark while South Heart's baseball team will next play on April 8 at Watford City. South Heart's softball team has a Friday, April 5 regular-season home-opener scheduled against Nedrose for 3:30 p.m. and they also will be hosting Hazen on April 9 in South Heart.
It's hopeful the Spring thaw will play a major role in allowing Dickinson State University's softball team to host a pair of doubleheaders versus Waldorf University this weekend at Bravera Field on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7, while the baseball team will be planning on their Spring home-opener at Dakota Bank & Community Trust Ballpark on Tuesday, April 9 next week.
