Bucs sack leader Vita Vea does not practice due to foot injury

TAMPA ― Vita Vea has been among the Bucs’ most consistent defensive linemen and leads the team in sacks for the second year in a row.

But the sixth-year nose tackle sustained a foot injury during Sunday’s 20-6 loss to the Lions and was not at the portion of practice open to the media Thursday.

Vea was limited in practice on Wednesday, so it could be the Bucs are being cautious in the hopes he can play in Sunday’s important NFC South game against the Falcons at Raymond James Stadium.

Vea is a key component of Tampa Bay’s run defense, which ranks seventh in the NFL, allowing 83.8 rushing yards per game.

A year ago, Vea led the Bucs in sacks with 6½. He has 3½ through five games this season, which again is most on the team.
