Buck Showalter believes successful season occurs if Mets ‘get in the playoffs’
After a playoff berth last season, the Mets entered 2023 with a chance to return for a second straight year, just as they did in 2015 and 2016.
Through the opening three months of the season, New York sits in fourth place in the National League East.
As the calendar soon flips to July, Buck Showalter was asked on Tuesday what would serve as a successful season for the Mets. His answer was simple.
“Get in the playoffs,” Showalter said. “It’s what we all get up in the morning for, right?”
Showalter added that he does not think about potential scenarios on success without a playoff berth.
“My mind doesn’t go there,” Showalter said.
Showalter also spoke to owner Steve Cohen’s impact on the team, who tweeted on Tuesday that he will speak ahead of New York’s game on Wednesday.
“He’s been great,” Showalter said. “Very supportive. I couldn’t ask for a better owner. He gets involved however he wants to. I know how much the Mets mean to him. There’s so many things that he does behind the scenes not for anybody to notice that are positive for the organization and the fans. He’s always looked at it like the fans’ organization. He’s gets frustrated. Very competitive man. He likes to win.”
The Mets look to even the series against the Brewers on Tuesday night with first pitch at 7:10 p.m.
