The Cleveland Browns have released defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey, the team announced Wednesday. News of the decision comes shortly after it was reported the 22-year-old was under police investigation for allegedly assaulting a woman and showing her he had a gun.

Two women told police they know Winfrey and saw him in a hotel lobby, leading one of them to yell an insult at him when he didn't acknowledge them, according to Fox 8 News. The women reportedly claim he then became angry and made threats while flashing the firearm.

Video from the incident was released Tuesday night via Instagram Stories, which seems to show Winfrey following the women in downtown Cleveland. The caption read, in part, "Perrion Winfrey just chased us barefoot out of the nine, pointed his [gun emoji], stole both of my phones and pulled off."

"You don't think it's on me?," a voice can repeatedly be heard asking in one of the videos. "I will smack the s*** out of both of y'all," the person responds when the woman recording says, "Perrion, what are you about to do?"

Appearing to have stopped walking, the woman asks, "Right here, in front of all these people?" As the camera begins to pan and show the surrounding area, the phone is seemingly snatched away. "Oh hell no, give me that s***," the woman says during an apparent struggle for the phone, where a voice can be heard saying, "Give me that f***ing phone. F*** out of here."

The same Instagram user also posted a photo saying she was "literally scared to go home," before sharing another photo appearing to show a bruise on her neck, with the caption, "This is what you stand for?!?? @clevelandbrowns."

This is the most recent incident involving the Browns 2022 fourth-round pick, who was arrested in April for assault in Houston of a woman he was dating. The victim was subsequently granted a protection order against Winfrey and the charges were dropped last month.

During his rookie season, Perrion recorded 22 combined tackles, one tackle for loss and half a sack.
