Brooklyn Nets have ‘genuine’ interest in Portland’s Damian Lillard

As the Brooklyn Nets progress through their important offseason, one of the matters that they will address in one way or another is if they will be able to pull off a trade for Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard. Per Brian Lewis of the New York Post, the Nets have “genuine” interest in getting Lillard.

There have been numerous mock trades involving the Nets and the Trail Blazers since Brooklyn’s season ended in a four-game sweep in the first round of the NBA playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Nets were able to keep things afloat enough to make it to the playoffs, but it was clear in their series against Philadelphia that they need a player better than budding wing Mikal Bridges to have a chance in the postseason.

NBA insider Marc Stein said recently that Lillard and the Trail Blazers are not ready to move on from each other yet, but if Portland decides to rebuild, Lillard has made it clear that he wants no part of a rebuild. While Brooklyn is rebuilding right now, they have every incentive to try to win as much as they can now given that the Houston Rockets own their first-round picks for the next few seasons thanks to the James Harden trade that brought the bearded one to Brooklyn.
