Broncos humiliated by Dolphins in ugly 70-20 loss

The Denver Broncos were embarrassed by the Miami Dolphins in an ugly 70-20 loss on Sunday afternoon.

The Dolphins jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and the Broncos then went 3-and-out after coach Sean Payton did not challenge an incomplete pass from Russell Wilson to Courtland Sutton on third down.

Miami then scored again, putting Denver in a 14-0 hole in the first quarter. After that, the Broncos scored on their second drive when Wilson connected with Sutton on a 12-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-7.

The Dolphins extended their lead with another touchdown to make it 21-7 in the second quarter and Denver matched that with a field goal, making it 21-10.

On the ensuing drive, Miami went for it on 4th-and-1 at their own 34-yard line and failed to convert, setting the Broncos up with great field position. Denver squandered that opportunity and ended up punting it back to the Dolphins three minutes before halftime.

Miami quickly scored another touchdown to make it 28-10. On the Broncos’ next drive, Sutton fumbled deep in Denver’s own territory and and Dolphins scored again to make it 35-10.

The Broncos then went 73 yards before having to settle for a field goal to make it 35-13 going into halftime. Miami scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter to extend the lead to 49-13.

The Dolphins scored three more touchdowns in the fourth quarter and Marvin Mims scored on a 99-yard kickoff return to make the final score 70-20. Miami totaled 726 total net yards in the convincing win.

On the injury front, inside linebacker Josey Jewell left with a groin injury in the first half. Right tackle Mike McGlinchey also left with an undisclosed injury.

Up next for the Broncos is a road game against the Chicago Bears in Week 3.
