Brock Purdy’s perfect regular-season run ends as Browns edge 49ers

Brock Purdy won the first 10 regular-season starts of his NFL career. He had the 49ers in position to win No. 11 with the finish Sunday in Cleveland resting on the leg of rookie kicker Jake Moody.

The rookie from Michigan was wide right, the Browns had a 19-17 win and Purdy’s perfect mark had its first regular-season blemish.

The Browns won the game with backup quarterback PJ Walker leading the way. That would be Walker, who was an XFL star before bouncing around the NFL.

He didn’t start the last game Deshaun Watson missed, the team opting to go with rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

Walker was 18-of-34 for 192 yards and 2 picks.

Purdy had one of his worst games, going 12-of-27 for 125 yards and a TD and interception.

The 49ers lost more than the game as two of their offensive stars, Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey exited with injuries.

San Francisco’s loss left the Philadelphia Eagles as the lone undefeated team in the NFL.

The Eagles played the New York Jets at MetLife in a late-afternoon window game.
