Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

This one won’t exactly go down as a classic, yet Brighton won’t care with this key 1-0 victory. They've got the vital three points to fuel their continued European dreams even amid the most determined of Nottingham Forest’s efforts. Where Brighton made goalkeeper Sels work, it was ultimately Omobamidele that would cause the most problems for his team-mate, as his own goal just before the 30 minute mark proved to be decisive. Up the other end, Verbruggen remained strong against Nuno's side - with two notable shots from Origi being their best chances to get even, the Dutchman saved one - and watched the other sail into the stands. Brighton push on in now in eighth and face Roma in their Europa League round-of-16 second leg. Forest meanwhile, still look over their shoulders at the relegation zone in 17th place and ready themselves for Saturday's crucial game against 18th-placed Luton Town. Thank you for joining us this afternoon, goodbye!

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:58

Yellow Card Adam David Lallana

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:56

Brighton have a corner on the left. They keep it short. Another one is to follow. Frustrating here, for anyone of a Forest persuasion.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:56

Yellow Card Ibrahim Sangaré

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:54

Kouyate provides a continued dynamic to Forest. Although, this time, it's not an effort on goal. It's a handball. He then fouls Gross after he whips out a deft backheel flick. Pascal, you should know you don't try that when Kouyate carnage is underway!

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:53

There's still time... We have six minutes of added time to negotiate here.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:53

KOUYATE CLOSE! A flighted free-kick from deep goes to the left post. Kouyate is arriving and heads a speculative effort on Verbruggen's goal. The 'keeper is a little unsettled but is thankful it floats just too high and nestles in the roof off the net.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:51

Watching Brighton pass makes this commentator think they could play football in a lift! Unbelievable technique from De Zerbi's side. Clearly, the training has been meticulous to say the least!

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:49

ENCISO! Wow, just wide of the top left corner. It was a brilliant, moving effort from the Paraguayan. He definitely has those in the locker! What a late wake up call for everyone in the stadium!

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:48

Substitution Morgan Anthony Gibbs-White Cheikhou Kouyaté

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:48

We've reached another strong spell of Brighton possession here. One can't be sure they should continue like this until the end with the added time on offer these days, but they seem in control.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:45

Well, Lamptey was said to involve a defensive aspect, but his first telling involvement has won his side a corner. He flew down the left and whipped a great low cross over. It had to be cleared as Welbeck was lurking. Brighton get the corner but it comes to nothing.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:41

Great positon. Poor strike. Gibbs-White hits a quite frankly tame free-kick into Verbruggen's grateful arms.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:41

Substitution Simon Adingra Adam David Lallana

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:38

Yellow Card Joël Ivo Veltman

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:36

Substitution Pervis Josué Estupiñán Tenorio Igor Julio dos Santos de Paulo

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:35

Bit of trivia here, Hudson-Odoi recently won Forest's goal of the month competition. The winger found the bottom corner from the edge of the area with an excellent curling effort, as Forest claimed a point in a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth. The goal received 43% of the total vote.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:33

Yates comes off for Awoniyi, as Nuno searches for a response from the bench.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:33

BIG save from Verbruggen down to his left! It was an excellent ball from Gibbs-White as he picked out Wood. However, despite striking well at the ever-evasive ball - Verbruggen was equal to it smartly. An added bonus was the collective defensive intelligence to clear.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:33

Substitution Nicolás Martín Domínguez Callum James Hudson-Odoi

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:33

Add it to the list. Yet another free-kick comes to nothing and drifts behind. Yawn.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:31

The VAR decision runs in accordance with Salisbury. Moder stays on the dance floor. VAR's Craig Pawson certainly didn't kill the mood for Brighton fans.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:28

Yellow Card Jakub Piotr Moder

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:28

Estupinan fouls Elanga. In this case, it's the two subs linking up - Sangare punched over a lovely flighted pass to the Swede on the right. The bounce was unkind and Estupinan bundled the former Manchester United man over. The free-kick is cleared.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:27

Forest will be looking down at the wrong end of the league table if they cannot turn things around in the second half at the Amex. Nuno's side are just three points clear of 18th-placed Luton Town, who have played a game fewer, and the visitors desperately need a response here. Brighton, meanwhile, have somewhat atone for the midweek thrashing by Roma with a decent performance in the opening period.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:25

Among the 123 managers to take charge of 50+ Premier League matches, De Zerbi has the highest overall goals-per-game ratio of any of them (3.42, 202 in 59 matches). By comparison, Forest manager Nuno ranks 99th in this list (2.49 per game). Clearly the Portuguese is having an effect on this one.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:21

Substitution Danilo dos Santos de Oliveira Ibrahim Sangaré

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:21

Substitution Divock Okoth Origi Anthony David Junior Elanga

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:21

Substitution Anssumane Fati Vieira Tariq Kwame Nii-Lante Lamptey

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:20

Substitution Evan Joe Ferguson Daniel Nii Tackie Mensah Welbeck

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:20

Fati has an effort. It was always going to be tricky - hitting a bouncing ball - yet he gets over it and blasts straight at Sels.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:17

Some top work from Estupinan is unfortunately unrewarded. He darts forward on the left and cuts back across the box to find Adingra. The Ivorian tries a cross but a block ricochets off him for a goal-kick.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:15

Yellow Card Neco Shay Williams

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:14

Forest have definitely stepped up compared to the earlier 45 minutes. Dunk is forced into a vital clearance behind for a corner to the visitors. Some towering red shirts are present, yet Brighton deal with the threat - even if Verbruggen botched the initial punch.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:11

Forest have a free-kick after Ferguson illustrates why he's not a defender. Murillo stands over it from about 25 yards. Instead of a floated ball, he's selfish and fires straight at the keeper from range. Poor.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:10

Origi goes close! From the mirrored position of his testing effort which Verbruggen saved low in the first period, the Belgian flies free on the right. He has less composure this time and blazes over.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:09

So, Forest have work to do. From losing positions this term, they've mustered 19 points. Can they add to this tally?

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:07

Brighton get us back underway with Gross.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

15:07

Brighton lead here at a drizzly American Express Stadium but not thanks to a Brighton player. That's right, while Forest haven't found favour at the top end of the pitch, they've managed to beat their own keeper. That's not to say the hosts hadn't been dangerous. Omobamidele capped an unfortunate sequence with an own goal on the 29th minute. He gave away the initial foul on Fati and was unlucky to get in the way of his shot-stopping teammate as he came for the ball. Forest wanted a foul on the goal line, but it never came. Instead, they converted this season's 32nd own goal in total. Although they looked promising in response, it's been a case of missing the final ball. Brighton's xG sits at 0.38 after that period. For Forest, they'll look to vastly improve on an xG of 0.16.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:51

HALF-TIME: BRIGHTON 1-0 NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:50

We're approaching the break and Forest really need to regroup with words from Nuno. Williams commits a frustrated tackle on Fati on the left. Perhaps that one was revenge for the Spaniard's earlier poor tackle. That could be an interesting duel to watch in the second period.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:50

Three minutes of added time have been signalled.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:47

He's up and as it looks to be from Williams' cross on the right that struck the centre-back in the face. He must've been slightly dazed, but good to go.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:47

There's a break in play for Dunk. Down with a head injury, he took a knock in the last clearance. Correct precautions are being taken with the big defender.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:43

So near so far as Forest just can't get the final ball right. It's clipped over the top on the right wing, yet it's just too far. The flag going up from the linesman presents a bleak summary of this Forest first half.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:43

Yellow Card Anssumane Fati Vieira

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:40

Gibbs-White shows initiative but not the finished product. He works it well inside on his right but drags it wide left of the goal.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:39

This reactive state is good for Forest. They seek to address a poor run of results on the road this season with three draws, eight losses, and just two wins in league away contests. Forest are on a three-match away winless streak (W0 D1 L2). The last time they won away was December 2023 against Newcastle United.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:37

Forest have admittedly reacted pretty well from going behind and earn a corner. That said, Brighton are hardly tested and clear well.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:35

Great save Verbruggen! Origi is through on the right but the young Dutchman stands his ground and blocks the low drive with his feet! Great goalkeeping!

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:30

Foul here by Omobamidele on Fati on the left and he has to be careful! He is on a booking... if he keeps lunging in like that, Santo may have to have a word or take him off.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:30

Own goal Andrew Abiola Omobamidele

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:29

Ferguson and Adingra are proving to be a nuisance for Forest! The Ivorian bolts down the right before keeping the ball in on the byline with a snapping pull back to the near post. His young Irish teammate is there but can only fire at Sels who blocks well!

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:28

On home soil this season, Brighton have secured 24 points (W6 D6 L1) from a possible 39 on offer in 13 Premier League contests. The Seagulls are in the midst of an 11-match home unbeaten streak (Wins 5 Draws 6 Losses 0) dating to September 2023 against Newcastle United.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:27

As that effort from Gibbs-White was far from skilled, who has been skilled in front of goal for Forest? The leading attacking threats have been Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi, who have netted eight and six times, respectively. Gibbs-White has a little bit of practice due if he wants to catch up with attempts like that bicycle kick.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:25

Gibbs-White goes for a bicycle kick here and nearly connects with Veltman instead of the ball!

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:25

Fati heads over from the free kick on the right. It's a great ball in and the Barcelona loanee is unlucky as Williams gets a vital touch to divert it over. From the next corner, there's bodies everyone and it breaks out to Baleba... he hits the stands with his powerful effort.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:21

While Brighton are easing into control, it's worth looking at their goal output. Brighton have been indebted to Pedro, Adingra, and Ferguson. Pedro is the club's top scorer with eight goals, followed by Adingra and Ferguson with six each. Can they carry the load in the Brazilians absence?

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:21

Yellow Card Andrew Abiola Omobamidele

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:18

EXCELLENT SAVE SELS! It was one you'd expect him to make, yet from the right sided free kick, Gross whips it in and Moder heads powefully. Sels is reactive and adeptly punches it away. The resulting corner is cleared too. Brighton are in the early ascendency.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:16

Yellow Card Nicolás Martín Domínguez

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:15

Foul on Wood now. Dunk steps across the Kiwi as he looks to break away after consummate Seagulls' pressure. It was sly to stop the play like that, and it's a foul the England defender has done many a-time no doubt.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:14

Brighton growing in confidence now, and Baleba cuts in from a determined middle-right drive. He bends his left footed strike just past the post - yet Sels was full stretch to cover his bottom right. Worth a go.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:12

First real shot from Brighton. Adingra curls one, but Sels is hardly tested. An easy claim.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:12

Foul by Wood on Adingra. The youngster who shone at AFCON with the Ivory Coast makes a darting drive through midfield and Wood plays an experienced foul. Brighton float the free kick in, yet it's a relatively routine headed clearance for the away side.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:10

Composure from Dunk here! Origi surges down the right with great power and gets a cross over. Dunk is there and chests it calmly to his goalkeeper Verbruggen. Safe.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:10

When the two sides last met in Premier League action, Brighton came out on top 3-2 at The City Ground in November. Joao Pedro led the Seagulls with two goals, scoring in the 49th and 58th minute. Ferguson also was on target. Elanga and Gibbs-White were on the scoresheet for Forest. With no Pedro today, will it be a different story?

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:08

Verbruggen arranges his wall and Forest have worked a little routine but the wall were wise to it! Williams fires the teed up effort right into the bodies and it's cleared.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:06

Estupinan fouls Origi on the right side and Forest find themself with a free kick in an interesting position here! Just outside the box, the Ecuadorian points at the ball but the shove was clear.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:04

Already here, we're seeing a possession based skirmish as both teams look to get an early foot on the ball.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

14:03

The players arrive out on to the American Express turf to Brighton's signature fanfare music. There's optimism in the air for both sides and respects are exchanged from the players to the crowd and vice versa. Forest have the kick-off and we're underway here!

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

13:54

Today's official lineup on the south coast sees Michael Salisbury as Referee. His assistants are Matthew Wilkes and Derek Eaton. The fourth official is Robert Jones while Craig Pawson is in the VAR hot seat.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

13:48

After time on the sidelines, Forest's Willy Boly and Chris Wood were back in training this week. With Boly only fit enough for the bench, Wood replaces Anthony Elanga. Callum Hudson-Odoi is replaced by Danilo. Midfielder Nicolas Dominguez came off with a minor complaint against Liverpool and was assessed before being deemed fit enough to start today.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

13:48

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi makes seven changes from Thursday’s 4-0 defeat at Roma. De Zerbi has opted for Bart Verbruggen between the posts instead of Jason Steele. Tariq Lamptey, Igor, Facundo Buonanotte, Danny Welbeck and Julio Enciso drop to the bench, while Billy Gilmour is serving the final game of a three-match suspension. Forward Joao Pedro, who has a hamstring injury, is still out and among those on the Seagulls' injury list.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

13:48

NOTTINGHAM FOREST SUBS: Anthony Elanga, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Cheikhou Kouyate, Felipe, Ibrahim Sangare, Matt Turner, Moussa Niakhate, Taiwo Awoniyi, Willy Boly.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

13:48

NOTTINGHAM FOREST (4-3-3): Mats Sels; Harry Toffolo, Murillo, Andrew Omobamidele, Neco Williams; Ryan Yates, Danilo, Nicolas Dominguez; Morgan Gibbs-White, Chris Wood, Divock Origi.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

13:41

BRIGHTON SUBS: Adam Lallana, Adam Webster, Danny Welbeck, Facundo Buonanotte, Igor, Jason Steele, Julio Enciso, Tariq Lamptey, Valentin Barco.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

13:41

Brighton are playing for pride today, already knowing they will mathematically avoid relegation in advance of their Premier League match against Nottingham Forest, who have more intense hopes of staying clear of the relegation places. Brighton & Hove Albion sit in ninth place on 39 points, having scored 49 goals and conceded 44. With 11 matches left, the Seagulls trail fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur by 11 points for a spot in the Europa League. Brighton were defeated 3-0 in their last Premier League match at Craven Cottage against Fulham.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

13:41

BRIGHTON (4-2-3-1): Bart Verbruggen; Pervis Estupinan, Lewis Dunk, Jan Paul van Hecke, Joel Veltman; Jakub Moder, Carlos Baleba; Ansu Fati, Pascal Gross, Simon Adingra; Evan Ferguson.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Nottingham Forest

13:41

Nottingham Forest's last Premier League match saw them beaten 1-0 by Liverpool at The City Ground, leaving them in 17th place on 24 points. Nuno Espirito Santo's side are just four points outside of the relegation zone with 11 matches to play and no doubt wary of point deduction chatter.
