Briar Rohrer returns punt for score in Port Clinton win

Briar Rohrer's eyes got big when he realized he'd have the chance to return a punt from his own side of the field.

Thirty-five yards and a few broken tackles later, Rohrer scored a touchdown Friday in Port Clinton's 52-21 victory over Rossford.

"It's always nerves catching the ball, not knowing how close the defenders are," he said. "Try my best to get those extra yards."

Dagan Meyers set up Rohrer's return with a sack to the 1. Rohrer added an 11-yard scoring reception from Koskela for a 35-21 lead late in the second quarter.

"He does the little things right," Port Clinton coach Eric Leuthold said of Rohrer. "He's doing what we ask, on both sides. And special teams. Briar worked hard in the offseason."

Meyers scored from 67 yards and 2 yards out, all while playing through an injury.

"I see myself as a captain," he said. "I don't want to be a captain and not show leadership. I want to be a captain on the field. I have to be there and keep everybody's drive up. Adrenaline plays a big part. You take a few plays off, it's still right there.

"Big thanks to Briar and Kii. There's usually a rotations. Kii is a sophomore. I can't just leave my guys out there. You fight through every down."

Koskela added scoring runs from 34 and 5 yards. Steele Joseph blocked a punt and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown.

Landon Witte kicked an 18-yard field goal.

"They do a lot well, run and pass," Leuthold said. "Rossford is a tough opponent. For our defense to shut them out in the second half was big."
