Breakdown of Jacoby Brissett’s contract with the Commanders
The Washington Commanders wanted Taylor Heinicke back to compete with and push Sam Howell at quarterback in 2023. However, Washington had a number in mind for Heinicke and wasn’t going to exceed that number.
While Heinicke wanted to remain in Washington, he understood the time was now to see what he could receive on the open market. It was a wise decision by Heinicke, who received a two-year contract worth up to $20 million from the Atlanta Falcons.
After losing Heinicke, Washington quickly turned to Jacoby Brissett. Brissett was always at the top of the Commanders’ offseason wish list. And on Wednesday, Washington agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Brissett.
What were those terms?
According to Spotrac, Brissett received a one-year deal worth $8 million. Doug Kyed of A to Z Sports and formerly of Pro Football Focus released the following numbers on Brissett’s contract via Twitter:
One year, $8M
$4.5M signing bonus
$7.5M in total guarantees
$3M base salary fully guaranteed
$500k workout bonus
Up to $2M in playing time incentives
Spotrac or Over the Cap haven’t verified those final contract numbers, but Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported similar numbers on the total value of the deal and what could be earned with incentives.
