Boys tennis roundup: Okemos, Mason, Williamston win regional titles

The Okemos boys tennis team had champions at seven flights while finishing as the champion Wednesday at a Division 1 regional hosted by Kalamazoo Loy Norrix.

The Wolves finished with 31 points to claim the title, while Holt was the runner-up with 25 points. Grand Ledge finished third with 13.

Okemos swept the singles flights with Suchir Nagisetty winning at No. 1 singles. Rikhil Rajankanth finishing as the champion at No. 2, Sahaj Pakala at No. 3 and Shaurya Padwal at No. 4.

The tandem of Kai Minamisono and Alex Zhang at No. 1 and Addy Sarda and David Shi at No. 2 were among the champions in the doubles flights for Okemos.

Davin Thelen and Luke Redd won in three sets at No. 3 doubles to give Holt its lone championship. The Rams finished as the runner-up in each of the other flights.

Okemos and Holt advance to next weekend's state finals in Midland.

Girls golf regionals: DeWitt captures Division 2 title, Mason finishes as runner-up

Division 3 at Mason

Mason swept the doubles flights while finishing as the champion at the regional it hosted with 24 points. Haslett was the runner-up with 22 points, while DeWitt was third and Fowlerville was fourth.

Isaac Johnson and Graysen Thomas (No. 1), Andrew Stahle and Ryan Barnhart (No. 2), Colin Haynie and Drew Perrault (No. 3) and Nate Brooks and Luke Marlan (No. 4) were Mason’s flight champions.

Haslett had a champion at No. 1 singles in Sree Komirisetty.

DeWitt’s Sam Buchinger was the champion at No. 4 singles.

Division 4 at Portland

Williamston claimed titles at four flights while capturing a regional title Wednesday. The Hornets had 28 points, while Goodrich was the runner-up with 18 points.

Jacob McNew was the champion at No. 2 singles for the Hornets, who also finished first in three doubles flights.

Owen Masi and Jack Robke (No. 2 doubles), Seth Pennington and Adrian Eby (No. 3 doubles) and Kaden Steinke and Devin Yadav (No. 4 doubles) were Williamston’s other champions.

Lansing Christian’s Stephen Gollapalli was the champion at No. 1 singles and Lansing Catholic’s Hayden Riley won at No. 4 doubles.

Division 2 at Dexter

East Lansing had champions at three doubles flights while placing second at its regional. The Trojans had 17 points — just one behind champion South Lyon East.

Bryce Aho and JD Hawthorne (No. 1), Grant Pennock and Nat Hickner (No. 2) and Miles Johnston and Kailin Foster (No. 4) were the doubles champions to lead the Trojans.

East Lansing also got runner-up finishes from Iskandarkhuja Ismoil at No. 1 singles, Henry Mahler at No. 3 singles and its No. 3 doubles tandem of Mason Briere and Jonny Kalt.
