Boys tennis: Regional roundup

Oct. 5—This week, boys tennis players all across Colorado battled in their various regionals to secure spots at the Class 4A and 5A state tournaments, which will be held at Pueblo City Park (4A) and Denver City Park (5A) next week.

The top two placers in each line will advance to the state tournament.

5A Region 2

Boulder enjoyed strong performances from No. 2 singles (Jackson Lewis), No. 2 doubles (Leo Damrauer/Henry Radoff) and No. 4 doubles (Bruno Damrauer/Nick Watson), all of whom made their cases for state with runner-up finishes.

5A Region 4

Legacy's boys all punched their tickets to state the hard way, earning second place in six of seven lines: David Tran (1 singles), Noah Klein (2 singles), Rufus Thompson (3 singles), Khai Nguyen/Logan Livermore (1 doubles), Gregory Waggoner/Karsen Barnes (2 doubles) and Daniel Kral/Gavin Gehring (4 doubles).

5A Region 5

Centaurus' No. 2 doubles team of Cai Jaffe and Julian Piccolini defended its second place finish in a playback to punch its ticket to the state tournament.

5A Region 6

Broomfield's No. 1 singles man Kai Trujillo unsurprisingly emerged as the regional champion and will be joined at state by Ryder Pearce (2S), who won the runner-up spot.

5A Region 7

In a shock to no one, Fairview's boys dominated their region, winning regional titles at six lines: 2 singles (Adhrit Sundaresan), 3 singles (Ben Mei Dan), 1 doubles (Noah Bodner/Cecil Carroll), 2 doubles (Charlie Gomulka/Jake Boston), 3 doubles (Sam Rich/Ian Schwartz) and 4 doubles (Chris Fitzgerald/Kai Rajpal).

Caden Bell, who battled an injury before stepping into the 1 singles role at regionals, earned the second bid at his line through playbacks.

5A Region 8

Monarch battled through tough competition at Chaparral and only saw its 2 doubles team — Aiden Swett/Ben Wilcutt — qualify through playbacks.

4A Region 5

Niwot, naturally, took charge at the regional it hosted, with all seven lines winning their way to regional titles. Dawson, Longmont and Frederick all earned secondary state-qualifying bids behind the Cougars.

4A Region 6

Peak to Peak found a great amount of success at its regional at Cheyenne Mountain High School, even if the Pumas had to work a little bit harder to secure their state bids. Vivaan Bhardwaj, at 2 singles, won a regional title. Behind him, Dhruv Shajikumar (1S), Copland Laberge (3S), David Pyun/Atticus Phillips (1D), Shreyas Sundaresan/Owen Kolachov (2D), Kabir Patadia/Dmitri Zaronias (3D) and Sid Nareddy/Sanjay Sudhakar (4D) all earned secondary spots.

Erie (5A Region 1), Silver Creek (5A Region 4) and Prospect Ridge Academy (4A Region 2) did not qualify anybody for state.
