Is any boys basketball team in Section 1 hotter than Mahopac right now?

We're inching closer and closer to the playoffs and many of the contenders are beginning to clash in league play. The end result is a mild shakeup in this week's top 10.

Mamaroneck is making all kinds of headway with a mix of breakout seniors and sophomores, posting big win after big win. Scarsdale got a needed win over New Rochelle last week and will be tested again this week against Mount Vernon.

Are there upsets coming that will force some of these teams out? Stay tuned.

1. Stepinac (12-3) — Braylan Ritvo raised his college profile last week and the Crusaders' emphatic win over St. Raymond was a statement. Last week: 1

2. Mamaroneck (12-1) — The confidence level of this group soared when the Tigers took down New Rochelle shorthanded. Last week: 4

3. White Plains (13-1) — Miles Johnson has quietly become the kind of point guard a contender has to have in the lineup. Last week: 3 

4. New Rochelle (11-2) —  How will the Huguenots respond after dropping close games to Mamaroneck and Scarsdale? Last week: 2

5 . Mount Vernon (7-3) — The Knights probably don't want to talk about the weather, but all that togetherness riding out snow days in British Columbia isn't a bad thing. Last week: 6

6. Iona Prep (11-3) — Will the offense continue to roll this week against Holy Child and Christ the King? The Gaels have averaged 75.6 points over their last three games. Last week: 5

7. Scarsdale (4-8) — Health is becoming less and less of an issue and the win over New Rochelle had to give the Raiders a boost. Last week: 7

8. Yorktown (11-2) — The Huskers provided a glimpse of what they can be in the second quarter against Somers when they played fast and smart. Last week: 8

9. Mahopac (11-0) — Officially, this is a surprise. There is just one undefeated team left in Section 1 and it's the Wolf Pac. Last week: 9

10. Peekskill (12-1) — The winning streak is up to nine and there's a highly-anticipated showdown against Nyack on the horizon. Last week: 10.

On the bubble: Fox Lane (8-4); North Rockland (10-5); Pearl River (11-1); Rye (11-2); Suffern (9-4).
