Boys basketball: Eight local teams advance to CIF-Southern Section quarterfinals

Eight was certainly enough Friday night.

Local boys basketball teams put together an impressive showing in the second round of the CIF-Southern Section playoffs, with eight out of 11 teams across six divisions advancing to the quarterfinals with victories.

In Divisions 2AA, Trent MacLean finished with 30 points and 13 rebounds, Elias Chin had 16 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and four steals, and Noah Cotton scored nine points to lead Thousand Oaks to a 64-49 win over host Linfield Christian.

The Lancers (24-6), who were tri-champions in the Marmonte League, will play the winner of Saturday's game between Crespi and Great Oak in a quarterfinal game Tuesday.

In Division 2A, Austin Maziasz finished with 31 points and 17 rebounds to lead Westlake to an 82-60 win over visiting Paraclete.

Dante Deshautelle had 16 points, four assists and two steals, Kayden Elsokary contributed 13 points and eight assists, and Axel Ostergard pulled down six rebounds for the Marmonte League tri-champion.

The Warriors (24-6) will play at Corona del Mar in a quarterfinal game Tuesday.

In Division 3AA, Josh Castaniero scored 15 points, Tyler Hook had 14 points, Spencer Clausen had 12 points, and Ty Chisholm added eight points to lead Camarillo to a 63-33 rout of visiting Pilibos.

The Scorpions (20-10) will play at Hesperia in a quarterfinal game Tuesday.

Dylan Benner scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Sam Seiden had 11 points and 10 assists, and St. Bonaventure used a dominant fourth quarter to bead Bonita 67-53 at Buena High.

The Seraphs (22-8) will play at Valley View in a quarterfinal game Tuesday.

In Division 4A, David Alvarez scored 22 points, Jose Valdovinos had 14 points and JJ De Santiago added 12 points to lead Santa Paula to a 61-47 win over host St. Monica Academy.

The Cardinals (25-5), who went on a 22-7 run to end the game, will play at Estancia in a quarterfinal game Tuesday.

Caymen Wimmer scored 12 points, Tyler Pickett had nine points, Will Friel had eight points and 12 rebounds, and Alex Klemz had eight points and five rebounds to lead Hillcrest Christian to a 50-40 road win over third-seeded Irvine.

The Saints (21-8) will play at Mary Star of the Sea in a quarterfinal game Tuesday.

In Division 5AA, Finn Fancher scored on a driving, left-handed shot off the glass with 2.5 seconds to lift Ventura to a 53-51 victory over visiting Calvary Baptist.

Travis Valenzuela had 16 points and eight rebounds, Fancher finished with 14 points and six rebounds, and Caleb Sebek had 11 points and six rebounds for the Cougars. Ventura (11-16) will play at Dunn in a quarterfinal game Tuesday.

In Division 5A, Ashton Brown hit five 3-pointers and finished with 20 points and Brody Baker and Nick Drucker each scored eight points to lead Foothill Tech to a 54-43 win over visiting Serano.

The Dragons (16-13) will play the winner of Saturday's game between Big Bear and Beacon Hill in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

Steven Melina scored 15 points and Aaron Huggins had 13 points for Oak Park in its 52-49 loss to visiting Rolling Hills Prep in a Division 2AA second-round game.

The Coastal Canyon League champion finished its season at 19-10.

Troy McGovern had 15 points and four rebounds, Isayah Garcia finished with 11 points and four rebounds, and Stevie Amara had five points and six rebounds for Oaks Christian in its 47-43 loss to host Sage Hill in a Division 3AA second-round game.

The Lions, who won a share of their first Marmonte League title during the regular season, finished the season 19-11.

Rajai Moody scored 14 points, Angel Avila had 12 points, and Nazir Ivey and Christopher Anguiano each added nine points for Channel Islands in its 61-49 loss to visiting Dunn in a Division 5AA second-round game.

The Raiders, who earned their first playoff victory since 2000 on Wednesday, finished their season 14-12.

Thursday

Freshman Grayson Coleman scored 27 points for Calabasas in its 69-63, double-overtime loss to host Shalhevet, which is coached by Coleman's father Ryan, in a Division 2AA first-round game Thursday.

Bryce Dameworth scored 12 points and Odijie Okojie added nine points for the Coyotes (18-11).
