Boyne Falls earns first-ever Northern Lakes title

HARBOR SPRINGS — The Boyne Falls volleyball team put together a solid final week of the regular season, with part of that knocking off a goal for the first time in program history.

The Loggers traveled to Harbor Light Christian in Harbor Springs over the weekend, coming away with their first-ever Northern Lakes Conference title after 10 hours of Saturday volleyball.

The Loggers slit with Burt Lake (25-19, 19-25), then topped Harbor Light (25-17, 25-21), Alba (25-14, 25-11), Alba once again (25-16, 25-21) and then again Harbor Light (25-16, 25-16). They then wrapped the tournament with a championship game win over Mackinaw City (25-21, 25-16).

Leading the way for the Loggers was Madison Loper with 49 digs, 32 kills and 12 blocks, Mackenzie Smith had 19 kills and 36 digs, Lilli Fenske had 45 digs and 12 kills and Elleana Loper had 56 assists.

Fenske also had 10 aces and Maddison Loper had 23 aces.

Mackinaw City’s second place finish came with wins over Alanson (25-12, 25-22), Ellsworth (25-20, 25-20), Vanderbilt (25-14, 25-15), Wolverine (25-15, 25-11) and Ellsworth again (25-17, 25-19) before the loss to Boyne Falls.

For Harbor Light in the tournament, wins came over Alba (25-13, 25-13), Burt Lake NMCA (25-23, 26-24), Wolverine (25-20, 25-15) and Alanson (25-10, 25-17).

Ava Kenwabikise had 35 kills to lead on the day, along with five blocks, Molly Ogden had 80 assists, Anna Zielinski had 43 digs and 22 kills and Charlotte Gagnon had 65 digs. Jayda Robertson also had five aces against Alanson.
