Boyne City softball sweeps in Charlevoix, Postula helps Comets win two

CHARLEVOIX — When the Boyne City softball team has been dangerous in previous years, everything is typically clicking at the plate.

On Monday afternoon in Charlevoix, things were certainly clicking and popping off the Ramblers' bats against their rival Rayders.

Boyne City picked up a Lake Michigan Conference sweep behind a combined 28 hits at the plate and 32 runs, winning a 12-6 opener and a 20-9 game two.

The wins put the Ramblers on a bit of a hot streak, as they’ve now won seven of their last nine and improved to 13-14 overall. Charlevoix fell to 9-16 with the losses.

In game one, Delaney Vollmer earned the win with five innings pitched and six hits and two walks allowed. She also struck out six batters.

Katelyn Dittmar went 3 for 4 with three runs scored, Savannah Kroondyk singled, doubled and drove in one, Karli Hayden singled twice and drove in two, Vollmer singled in four runs and Lucy Uy had an RBI single.

For Charlevoix, Danielle Mason singled, doubled and had two RBIs and Mary Lentz singled and doubled.

Kylie Dorst took the loss over an inning and two thirds, allowing six hits and a pair of walks, while Lentz went two and a third and gave up five hits and a walk.

The bats really came alive for Boyne City in game two, with Kroondyk bringing in a double, triple and four RBIs, Vollmer went 4 for 5 with two RBIs, Addy Cosier went 3 for 5 with an RBI, Maggie Miller went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Uy singled in two and Rachel Clausen had two RBIs. Sawyer Cadarette also had an RBI single.

Cosier earned the win behind five and a third, giving up 11 hits and three walks, while striking out three.

For Charlevoix, Dorst, Lentz and Sydney Wurst all took to the circle and combined to allow 17 hits.

Lentz went 3 for 4, Dorst singled, doubled and had two RBIs, Emma Meadows singled in two runs and Anna Kemp and Haiydin Bissell each had an RBI single.

Charlevoix returns to action at Mancelona Wednesday, May 17, while Boyne City travels to Harbor Springs on Monday, May 22.

East Jordan at Kalkaska 

KALKASKA — East Jordan softball dropped a pair against host Kalkaska Monday, falling 8-0 and 13-3.

In game one, Alley Whiteford collected the lone hit for EJ, while Skylar Barnett and Cadence Kenny each pitched in the loss, both earning two strikeouts.

In game two, Caitlyn Burks had a solo homer and Lillian Stone doubled in a pair of runs.

Kenny, Lizzie Pop and Sydney Guerriero all pitched for EJ in the game two loss, with Pop striking out three.

East Jordan fell to 6-16 overall on the season and next welcomes Charlevoix on Monday, May 22.

NORTHERN LAKES 

Mackinaw City at Harbor Light

HARBOR SPRINGS — The Mackinaw City softball team earned a sweep over host Harbor Light Christian Monday, winning 2-0 and 3-1.

In game one, Marlie Postula earned the six-inning win with 11 strikeouts and just three hits allowed.

Jillian Poumode had an RBI for the Comets and Vanessa Groenewoud and Kenzlie Currie each singled.

In game two, Postula struck out 12 more batters and gave up just two hits across six innings.

Madison Smith singled twice, scored twice and stole five bases, while Julia Sullivan scored the other run.

For Harbor Light, Clare Zielinski struck out a combined 21 batters in the two games. Anna Zielinski then scored the lone run of the night for the Swordsmen.
