Bounce back: Eastlake back on track after rout of Socorro in District 1-6A football

The Eastlake Falcons got back on the winning track Thursday night with an 56-18 win against Socorro.

The Falcons improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in District 1-6A and they rebounded from last week's 17-0 loss to Americas. Socorro is now 0-5 overall and 0-3 in District 1-6A.

Eastlake with big offensive effort

The Falcons, whose 56 points were a season-high, led 35-12 at the half. Wide receiver Junior Trotman scored three times, a 75-yard touchdown catch, a 10-yard touchdown catch and a 2-yard TD run, which was set up by a 37-yard run.

Adam Kirtley and Paul Herrera added touchdowns for the Falcons.

The second half was more of the same. Ivan Medrano caught a 60-yard touchdown pass and running back Steven Galindo scored on a 76-yard touchdown run and returned a kickoff back for a score.

Socorro shows improved play on offense

The Bulldogs did some good things in the first half, getting a touchdown run from quarterback Antonio Montes and a 9-yard touchdown pass from Montes to Diego Aguirre.

Running back Adrian Acosta had a 43-yard run and a 13-yard catch in the first half. In the second half, Acosta scored on a short touchdown run. It's the third straight week, the Bulldogs have found some success on offense.

What the winning coach said

"We're in playoff mode," Falcons coach Ruben Rodriguez said. "We wanted to come out and be physical. We had some big plays on offense and we just want to keep getting better over the next few weeks. It's going to be a grind against good teams."

What the winning players said

"We came back after our loss and had a good week of practice," Troutman said. "We played well on offense and it was nice to have some big plays. We have lots of big games coming up against Montwood, Eastwood, Pebble Hills and Franklin, we just have to be focused one game at a time."

Up next

Eastlake plays Montwood on Thursday and Socorro plays Pebble Hills on Friday. Both games are at the SAC.
