Boston Celtics’ center Rob Williams says knee is ‘feeling good’ ahead of Houston Rockets contest

Boston Celtics center Robert Williams III is playing the most minutes of his career this season by far, so small injuries are bound to pop up as his body gets used to the load increase. The big man has missed the last three games due to left knee tendinopathy but is probable to return against the Houston Rockets Monday night.

The Celtics (9-8) have gone on a mini-run without Williams or star Jaylen Brown, beating the Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder in their last two games. Now potentially adding each of the two back into the fold to face a one-win Rockets team gives the team an even better chance to continue their better play.

Williams spoke with the media ahead of the game on Monday morning and said his knee is feeling good.

Knee update

“I’m feeling good. We have been testing it day to day,” Williams said about his knee. “As far as maintenance whatever maintenance I need to take care of my body. Obviously, the more than merrier. Just realizing what’s going on, the increase in minutes.”

The center said he is not on a minutes restriction as well.

Praise for frontcourt partners

Williams also commented on having Al Horford back and sharing the frontcourt with the 35-year-old.

“I feel like me and Al both relieve a lot of stress off of each other just by communicating, obviously,” Williams explained. “Some plays he might need something some plays, I may need something, so I feel like we got a sense of knowing that the other one has his back and I feel like that’s important.”

Williams also said that teammate Grant Williams is the best communicator on the team, giving high praise for the third-year forward out of Tennessee.

Ime Udoka

Williams had even higher praise for his new head coach, Ime Udoka.

“He got all this trust in us and we got all our trust in him,” Williams stated. “I feel like we locked in mentally. We there. We have great conversations with each other, it’s rare that someone can really engage in a conversation with their coaches.”
