Blue Jays Roundup: Soccer comes up one goal shy
Sep. 17—A lucky few deflections were the difference Thursday night at Jamestown's Rotary Field.
The Jamestown High School soccer squad lost to visiting Bismarck Century 1-0, to drop to 3-8 in the West Region standings while Bismarck Century improved to 6-3-2 in the conference, good enough to hold to the No. 3 position. Minot (10-0-1) and Bismarck High (8-1-2) lead the WDA.
Another scoreless half put the Jays in a good position heading into the second, but with 15 minutes remaining in regulation, Brooks Turner booted in a corner kick to make it a 1-0 game. All eight of the Jays' losses have been one-score games.
Jamestown's chance at win No. 4 will come on Saturday as the team is slated to travel to Williston Saturday. The Jays previously topped the Coyotes 5-1 on Aug. 28. Williston will be looking for their first win of the season on Saturday. The game is scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Larson saved five of Century's six shots on goal Thursday. Jamestown recorded five shots on target in the 80 minutes of play.

Tennis rolls over Demons in Bismarck
After a couple of tough losses on the road last week, the Jamestown High School tennis team seemed to find their rhythm over in the capital city Thursday
"The boys played well," JHS head coach John Ness said. "They bounced back from a couple of tough defeats. We have a tough week to end the regular season next week against Bismarck Legacy and Minot High."
Camron Anderson won his fourth-straight match, topping Bismarck High's Karalus 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) in the No. 6 singles match. The Jays defeated the Demons 7-2, taking five of the six singles matches and a pair of in doubles. The Jays are slated to be back in action Tuesday hosting Bismarck Legacy. The dual is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
