Eight NHL teams are currently in Traverse City, Michigan for the annual prospect tournament in the days before the opening of full training camps. On Monday night, the Detroit Red Wings kids beats the Minnesota Wild kids 5-1 to advance to the third place game; but the victory was overshadowed by a scary incident to Detroit forward Brandon Robinson.

Early in the third period, Robinson attempted to win possession of a loose puck behind the Wild net. When he tried to hit Minnesota defenseman Christian Folin, his momentum took him head first into the end boards where he would lay motionless for nearly ten minutes:

From Brendan Savage of MLive.com, who was in Traverse City:

One of the doctors who attended to Robinson told MLive Robinson was moving before he was wheeled off the ice and was taken to Munson Medical Center, where he'll likely undergo X-rays and an MRI to check for a cervical spinal fracture.

The doctor said Robinson knew he went into the boards awkwardly and began experiencing neck pain immediately.

Despite the scary scene, there’s good news to come out of this. According to Savage, Robinson, a free agent tournament invitee, didn’t break or fracture any bones and was seen wearing a back brace Tuesday morning. Doctors have said that he can return to the ice when he feels ready.

Said Robinson after seeing video of the scary play, "It looks a lot worse than it actually is. I don't remember it fully. It was a quick play. It happens. It's hockey."
