Marine shocks family at Red Wings game, proposes to girlfriend on spot (Video)

We’ve seen military men and women surprise their families at NHL games before, and it can get kind of elaborate – the Flyers recently had Army PFC. Matthew Windish appear in a giant GI Joe box as he was revealed to his loved ones.

Lance Cpl. Chris Marr surprised his parents Lisa and Brian and girlfriend Escely at the Detroit Red Wings’ game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night, and it was quite emotional.

But what they didn’t know is that he was about to really, really surprise his girlfriend in front of a packed Joe Louis Arena:

Oh, that’s slick. Try topping that, fellas.

FYI, the Red Wings actually have a proposal policy for home games:

There are two types of proposals during Red Wings games. A live proposal and a videoboard message. The videoboard message is your proposal on the scoreboard at intermission – there is no live shot of the event as it happens. Proposals must be submitted 72 hours in advance of the game you are attending. The live proposal takes place at a TV Time out as one of our promotional activities, and is shown on the video board.

We only do 10 live proposals per season and require a $500 donation to The Red Wings Wish Club at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation. Live proposals must be coordinated a week in advance of the game you are attending.

Wonder if they waived the fee for this one.
