Florida State OL Ira Denson arrested for theft after allegedly using teammate's credit card
Florida State redshirt freshman OL Ira Denson was arrested Tuesday on charges of theft and the illegal use of a credit card.
RB Mario Pender told Tallahassee police that Denson used his card three times on December 19. Once at a gas station for $5, once at Champs for a purchase of $134.36 and another time at Foot Locker for $362.
According to surveillance video from Champs, Denson and Shaquille Walden, who is not a member of the FSU football team, were at the store buying shoes on that date.
The video shows Walden pay for the shoes with Pender's card while Denson stood next to him, court documents said.
Denson told police he was present at the time of the purchase but "merely told Walden he wanted to buy the shoes but would do so at a later date."
Denson then admitted he knew the card belonged to Pender but said he did not know where Walden had gotten the card, court documents said.
Walden told police that Denson gave him Pender's card and the shoes purchased with it were meant as a gift for Denson's father.
The alleged incident sparked an argument that reportedly ended with gunfire on December 22 when Pender went to confront Denson about the allegations. Tarron Addison, an acquaintance of Denson's, is charged with first-degree attempted murder after he shot at a car with Tim Pruitt, the half-brother of Pender, in it.
Pruitt was hit in the head and went to the hospital.
Denson, who was released on bond Wednesday morning, has not been practicing with the team this spring. He is still enrolled at Florida State.
