Johnny Manziel visits Patriots, would team draft the QB?

At least for one day, anyways.

NFL Network reported that Johnny Manziel was spotted in New England and will visit with the Patriots tomorrow.

Manziel threw for 4,114 yards last season with the Texas A&M Aggies to go with 37 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Most NFL pundits see Manziel going near the top of the first round, with some believing the Houston Texans will take him with the No. 1 overall pick.

But there's clearly a chance the Texans choose Jadeveon Clowney, and with a number of other highly-touted quarterbacks in the draft, it's possible Manziel could slip.

How far . . . Who knows? Most likely not to pick No. 29 where the Pats are. But if Manziel slips far enough, trading up to snag him may come into play. It's unlikely, but possible. The Patriots currently have a backup in Ryan Mallett in the final year of his deal. There's been no indication that Mallett is going to take over once Brady hangs 'em up (if that day ever comes).

Manziel also offers a completely different look than Brady does due to his speed, and could be a nice complement to Brady's game.

Speaking of the two, Manziel reached out to Brady earlier this year asking for advice. The two texted about football, life as a football star, and it's possible that Texans head coach Bill O'Brien came up too.

The most likely reason for the visit you'll hear, though, is that the Patriots are doing their "due diligence", as the front office likes to say.

Manziel won many awards and broke records over his two seasons as the starting QB of the Aggies. He won the Heisman Trophy as a freshman and was a finalist again as a sophomore. He also led his team to a Cotton Bowl victory in 2012 and a Chik-fil-A Bowl victory in 2013.

NFL Network also reported that the Patriots met with QB Blake Bortles last week in Orlando while checking out other UCF prospects. Bortles is also projected to go near the top of the first round.
