Bill Schultz leads BCGA Publinks Championship after first round
Jul. 17—Bill Schultz of Wyomissing shot a 2-under 70 Saturday to take a one-stroke lead over Henry Pilliod into Sunday's second and final round of the Berks County Golf Association Publinks Championship at Golden Oaks Golf Club.
Schultz birdied the final hole Saturday. He had two other birdies and one bogey in a mostly steady round.
Pilliod of West Lawn is the only other golfer under par. He shot a 71, also making a birdie on the par-5 18th. Pilliod had two birdies on the front nine to make the turn at 2-under, but had three bogeys and two birdies on the back nine.
Charlie Bross of Sinking Spring and Matt Gehringer of Fleetwood are tied for third place at 74.
The final round of the 36-hole tournament begins at 11 a.m. Schultz, Pilliod, Bross and Gehringer will play in the final group that tees off at 11:50 a.m.
