How to bet on NY Giants vs. Dolphins with injury status of Saquon Barkley, Andrew Thomas

The Giants put together one of the worst performances of the NFL this season in a 24-3 loss at home to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4.

Now 1-3 on the season and a longshot to make the playoffs, the Giants travel to South Beach as they take on the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium this Sunday at 1 p.m.

After scoring the most points in 57 years in their 70-20 victory over the Denver Broncos in Week 3, the Dolphins struggled last weekend in a 48-20 defeat to the Buffalo Bills.

Here's my betting advice on the spread, total and the moneyline for this Week 5 matchup in Miami:

Giants vs Dolphins spread: Giants +12.5 (-110), Dolphins -12.5 (-110)

Before Week 4, the line for this game opened with the Dolphins as a modest 4.5-point home favorite.

It shouldn't be a shock now that the number has skyrocketed by a touchdown with the Giants as the only double-digit underdog on the NFL slate as of Tuesday afternoon.

After being the best team against the spread (14-5) last season (including regular season and postseason), the Giants have failed to cover in every game so far this year.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins have covered the spread in all three contests before last week's blowout loss in Buffalo.

While there's still a chance running back Saquon Barkley returns in Week 5, the bigger concern is the offensive line. The team has ruled out three starters in guard Shane Lemieux, rookie center John Michael Schmitz and most importantly, All-Pro left tackle Andrew Thomas.

Now down multiple starters up front and Barkley still not certain to suit up, can the Giants keep it close and somehow slow down this offensive juggernaut in the Dolphins?

Personally, even if Barkley is able to give it a go, it'll be tough to imagine sustained success on the road in Miami, where it'll likely be 90-plus degrees on the field with the Giants bench in the direct sun the entire game.

Lay the double-digit points as this one is likely to get out of hand fast for the Giants.

Prediction: Dolphins -12.5

Giants vs. Dolphins total: Over/Under 47.5 points (-110)

The total going over or under here has nothing to do with the Dolphins, and is all about the Giants.

Can the Giants, a team that's been outscored 122-46 through the first four games, keep up with an opponent that scored the most points in the NFL (150) this season?

While this certainly will be an uphill task for the Giants, Miami is beatable on defense. The Dolphins have given up the sixth-most yards per game (374.5 YPG) and 29.8 points per game, the fifth-highest in the NFL.

If Barkley is in the backfield, the Giants should hopefully get into some type of groove/rhythm on offense against a so-so defense.

Despite being one of the highest totals on the board in Week 5, wager on there being a ton of scoring as the Giants finally muster up some points and go over the total in a game for only the second time this season.

Prediction: Over 47.5 points

The thing to remember about the NFL is that it really is any given Sunday. There were almost multiple upsets with the Washington Commanders taking the Philadelphia Eagles to overtime and the New York Jets almost defeating the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

If the Giants are to pull off the biggest upset of the weekend, how can they do it?

The answer is if they can take advantage in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Giants' 2022 first-round-pick Kayvon Thibodeaux doubled the amount of sacks the defense had this season, as he recorded his first multi-sack game of his career versus the Seahawks.

The Dolphins have already ruled out tackle Terron Armstead, QB Tua Tagoavailoa's blindside blocker with a knee injury. Jaelan Phillips, Miami's 2021 first-round-pick linebacker, missed the Bills game with an oblique injury and will likely be questionable coming into this one.

Ultimately, I think the Giants can do some damage to this Dolphins defense, but in the end, Miami's arsenal of weapons on offense in Raheem Mostert, Devon Achane, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, led by Tagoavailoa, will be too much for them to overcome.

To get some type of value for the Dolphins, I'd wager on Miami to win both halves at even money (+100) or to score first and get the victory at -140 on DraftKings Sportsbook.

If you believe the Giants can pull off the massive upset, the best price as of Friday evening is +525 (Bet $100 to win $525) on DraftKings.

Prediction: Dolphins 34, Giants 17
