Black Friday, now as regular a feature on our autumnal calendars as Halloween and Bonfire Night, returns once again for what is set to be its biggest year yet.

The big day of discounts traditionally falls the Friday following Thanksgiving, which this year means it will take place on Friday 24th November. Conveniently, it offers shoppers the chance to get a head start on Christmas shopping, as well as a heavy discount on gifts.

Black Friday sees a host of savings across a broad range of areas, from technology to furniture. Most of Britain's biggest high street and online retailers compete for custom with cuts that often top 50 per cent.

2016 was the biggest Black Friday yet, British shoppers spending a staggering £5.8bn between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which is the Monday after Black Friday and is dedicated to online savings.

So if you're after new trainers, sportswear, or are fan of athleisure, Black Friday is the day for you to find the best deals on all the Nike products you've been meaning to buy.

What deals can we expect this year?

It's too early to tell at the moment, as most deals aren't released by retailers until the week preceding Black Friday, or indeed the day itself. But last year's discounts can provide an insight into what we may see in 2017.

Nike offer discounts both in-store and online - and a number of retailers, such as Amazon, Asos, Schuh and JD Sports are also likely to significantly drop prices on a number of Nike products.

We are expecting discounts across Nike's footwear and clothing ranges, from trainers, running shoes and football boots to t-shirts and rain jackets.

Last year, for example, the Power Legendary Women's Training Capris sold for £45.49, down from its RRP of £65. The Pro Classic Sports Bra was available for £17.49, a £7 saving. And the Lemon Air Force 1 Low Trainers sold at £40, half their normal price.

How to stay in the loop

It's essential to be organised and proactive on Black Friday. Deals come and can quickly go, so spending too long dithering can mean losing out. Try to plan what you want, whether it's shoes, shorts or shirts, so you don't blow your budget before you find what you actually need.

Though Black Friday was originally a one-day event and became a sales weekend with the arrival of Cyber Monday, some retailers now host up to two weeks of deals. This means it's worth having a look on key sites from mid-November, as deals may start to trickle in.

Follow Nike UK on Twitter and Facebook, as well as stores likely to stock items by the company. Amazon, Asos, Schuh and several other outlets may inform customers of discounts via social media.

The Telegraph will also be regularly updating its Black Friday content throughout the Black Friday weekend, helping readers to find the best discounts on offer.
