Best NFL underdog picks and predictions for Week 5

In Week 4 of the NFL season, there were 7 underdogs on the moneyline to win outright and 9 underdogs who covered the spread.

Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s NFL odds and lines, and tab the best NFL Week 5 underdog bets to cash in on among SportbookWire’s NFL expert picks and predictions.

My 3 underdog picks from Week 4 went 2-1, with the Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons each winning their games outright, but the Jacksonville Jaguars were unable to cover the spread. Through 4 weeks, my picks are 5-7.

Let’s take a look at the picks for this week.

NFL underdog predictions: Week 5

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at Thursday at 3:31 p.m. ET. All games Sunday and ET unless noted.

Detroit Lions (+145) at New England Patriots – 1 p.m. (FOX)

The Lions put up 45 points last week and have the league’s No. 1 offense and did that without RB D’Andre Swift or WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. They might be without them again, but will face a Patriots squad with 2 injured QBs. While Mac Jones practiced, it is unlikely he would play after missing 1 game with a high ankle sprain. It’s likely that Bailey Zappe will get the start.

Detroit’s defense has been as bad as the offense has been good, but I like the Lions to win this game outright.

Atlanta Falcons +9.5 (-108) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers  – 1 p.m. (FOX)

The Falcons are 2-2 and have covered the spread in every game. Scoring points has not been a problem for the Falcons, as they have scored 23 or more every week.

The Bucs’ defense was shredded for 41 points by the Kansas City Chiefs last week.

The Bucs have blown the Falcons out the last 3 times they have played, but NFC South games can be fun. Expect a 1-score game.

New York Jets (+150) vs. Miami Dolphins – 1 p.m. (CBS)

The Jets have either gotten a close win or lost by 15 points.

Miami has a number of injuries. QB Tua Tagovailoa is still not practicing and they could be without LT Terron Armstead and WR Jaylen Waddle.

The Jets have scored 24 or more in their 2 wins.

Expect them to surprise the shorthanded favorites.
