Ben Roethlisberger says he plans to return next season
Ben Roethlisberger made headlines last summer when he said he wouldn’t commit to playing past the 2017 NFL season. It led to a decent amount of speculation that football fans were watching the final weeks of the quarterback’s career.
But following Sunday’s shocking 45-42 divisional playoff loss to Jacksonville, Roethlisberger applied a decent amount of brake to that talk. The two-time Super Bowl champion says he plans to be back with the Steelers for the 2018 season.

“I don’t know about contracts or who is coming back, but I know the guys up front are,” Roethlisberger also said. “That makes it good for me. So I look forward to next year with those guys.”
Roethlisberger completed 37-of-58 passes for 469 yards and five touchdowns against the Jaguars, but had two turnovers in the first half that led to 14 Jaguars points.. He is the first quarterback in NFL history to lose a playoff game after throwing five touchdowns.
Roethlisberger turns 36 in March. While he still has plenty of time to change his mind after thinking things through, it looks like he’ll be back for at least one more run in Pittsburgh.
